Love this pup for leads on the higher 3 strings but it comes apart a little too much (too soft) on the lower strings.. What current production pup will be this? dimarzio or duncan or whatever, I'm not picky though I prefer not to pay booooooootique prices for pups. It is nice to say fat highs and tight lows but not sure it is that simple. As I know nothing really about magnets, pole pieces, winding, let's hear what you guys like. For reference, this is my koa top strat that i struggled with for a while being a tad too bright and spanky. I tamed that with tone knob value change, the custom custom, and believe it or not, RAISING the action! It is ready to go and has better tuning stability now as well, just lacks the right cut in the bridge pup. I did have a JB in there before but it was too much treble spike for this axe. I considered the AT-1 but would like to hear from someone who has played both the AT-1 and custom custom.

There is a dimarzio pro track in the neck which seems to work well, it will stay as it marries the quack with the humbucker fullness when I roll back the tone knob.

Thanks

MCP blister bucker or black iron. I think they are about the same.
Kinda like MCP version of the custom custom.
Look for used ones save some dough.

I imagine doing that swap would give me something close to my air zone in another guitar which is A5 and patented "air technology" (whatever the hell that is) Sounds great in that guitar though.

Swapping in an a5 will make it a custom 5. Scooped and the treble strings will get much more bite compared to the custom custom. Bigger bottom end though.

I just switched from the Custom Custom to just the Custom, which I belive is the ceramic version of the Custom Custom. I'm done with pickups now, this one works great.

exactly

I had a custom SH-5 ceramic in there before, way too brittle for this guitar unfortunately..

Ever tried a ToneZone? It won't roll off the top end like the CC.. but it will put the emphasis on the mids and low end, which in a way.. makes a guitar sound less 'bright' IMO. I use one in my Charvel and love it!

Ive got a custom 5 in my horizon-III, and it sounds excellent. I think itd fix the issues youre hearing.

I think i am going to try the SD first... forgot about the one i had sitting brand new in a box on the shelf.. seems eq'd similarly with fatter low end but will be tighter as a ceramic..

Word. Ill also say that I typically play mahogany guitars and like ceramic magnets in them. Dimarzio dominion has been my favorite, so far, with the breed being a close second...but the breed is a little looser than I like. The dominion is EMG tight, without the compression.

The horizon-III is alder with a maple top and maple neck through....custom 5 sounds and feels AWESOME in it, even for it not being a ceramic magnet. I imagine the Custom would be too brittle in it, but the C5 does its job VERY nicely.

try the MCP Angel Dust A2 (Blissterbucker) or the Black Iron!! Great pickups!!! The Custom 5 is pretty good too.
