I know very well the Duncan JB have on on my American standard strat. I just receive my new Strat Blacktop with a floyd today and I was asking me if the Duncan distortion would be a good choice for a pickup change. Can you tell me the difference between both? Have you ever compare them?

Thanks guys

Dist sound like a BKP aftermath but more aggressive in the high end

The JB and Distortion are the same pickups with different magnets. The JB is alinco 5 and he distortion is ceramic.

Distortion all the way, for my tastes anyway. The JB can get flubby on the lows, while being bright on top. Distortion is tight on the lows and has great upper mids and top end to it. Sounds and feels more balanced.

Does the distortion clean up well with the volume knob on the guitar? That's also what I like with my JB.

What type of body wood? Both are good pickups, I have them both but never tried them in the same guitar. I don't think there is a wrong answer here but I'd lean towards the Distortion but only you can really answer this one ;) Don't overlook the Custom or the Custom 5 in the bridge position either ;)

It definitely cleans up fine, but the amp used will also have a big effect on that too. If you want really killer cleans, you could add a coil split too.

This and I have an alder body charvel with a maple neck and fingerboard. I couldn't be happier with the results.

I switched from the Distortion to the JB partly because it wouldn't clean up with the volume control. I always use JB's in pretty much everything now. They clean up great. Very thick sounding.

The Distortion is much brighter and a bit tighter if that's your thing.

Not a ceramic mag fan, so I vote JB. Just threw an 80's JB into my strat and it sounds awesome.

I had both and for some reason i never was a fan of the lows on the jb, i currently have 2 strats that came with the jb and i might switch it to a distortion. I liked the distortion because to my ears it had a little less lows but they was tighter and it was a brighter pickup. Seems like most people also hear the distortion as the brighter and tighter pickup.

Jb. I have one of each in similar les pauls, and if youre turning down for cleans like i am the jb is more managable imo. If its straight metal the distortion..
