just got a pair of these to put in my Les Paul custom. Haven't played them but I liked what I heard on youtube............ what's your experience on these ?

as you prob. know by now I'm after the nice clean/bluesy/mellow tone. Won't play metal with this of course.

Hard rock at most.

I am recent convert to the P90 camp, I went for a set of Mean 90's for a PRS Mira. I really think P90s are best of both worlds, I'm sorry I haven't tried them until now. You can have nice transparent clean/crunch and also agressive grind. I bet you'll be very happy with the Phat Cats.

i put a set of Phat Cats in an Epi LP Standard and they sound GREAT!! I've also tried the Dimarzio Bluesbucker and like the results I've got with it, but it's different--more mellow and no nickel cover.

I think you're gonna like the sound. Go to my YouTube channel and look for my Vintage Modern review--I use that Phat Cat-equipped axe on there and it sounds great (IMHO).

Cheers,

wow, it sounds great man! very cool looking axe too. Those phat Cats get surprisingly heavy :)

I think I'll be happy with them.

I had a Phat Cat in the neck of a LPC I had quite a while ago and I liked it a lot. Eventually settled on a '57 Classic but I did like the Phat Cat.

Phat Cat P90 is killer for what it is. It's basically an overwound, super-phat P90. I have an old Hamer Centaura HSS with the PH90 in the bridge. It's a monster single coil for the bridge. Adds a lot of meat and kick. If I did an LP type guitar, I'd probably put a PH90 in the bridge and a regular neck P90. That way I have something with a little sparkle in the neck, and something more meaty in the bridge.

It's a great pickup though. Watch out for all that extra heat though. These things are pushing 9k DC resistance for a bridge PH90. It's PHAT to say the least.

Have a set of them in my hand made LP.
They sound great

i love p90s in the neck warm/round fat tone, they're a bit too snarly in the bridge position for my liking, and the hum is something you gotta get used to =)

i use a soapbar PRS SE in another band, but only use the middle position (hum cancelling), i have a BG Pure 90 for the neck coming in a few weeks, see how that sounds

I don't mind the humming since 1) I use single coils most of the time and 2) I don't use much gain at all

I like them in my LP studio (the blue one)
