These videos are the greatest thing ever. No lie. I followed along with a different track, doing similar things to what Jeremy was doing and now I understand this whole process a LOT better. I'm only 3/4 through the second video and my drum track already sounds FAR FAR better. Bring on more vids!!

Awesome man! I did the new vid today but it was like 48 minutes!!! Gotta redo it and get it shorter! Lol!

Great stuff Jeremy, thanks a lot man! Can't wait to try out some of them tricks.

Keep'em coming good man!

I'm looking forward to checking these out. Appreciate you taking the time to do this!

Hey all! Vol 3: "Creating Your Own Beats From Scratch" is uploaded and I added it to the OP! Enjoy! Vol 4 is uploading now...

Jer, I actually have a solution for the problem of fake sounding hi hats. As mentioned no matter how you alter hits, hi hats never sound consistent and like a real performance even when humanizing. Seems to me the ticket is hi hat loops : http://www.flstudiomusic.com/2017/03/14 ... loops.html. Seems to me that would Solve the problem. Besides, the hats provide the time and metronome for rest of performance and will actually make the other places hits more lifelike. Just something for you guys to think about.

I'll have to check these out.

hey all, Volume 5 is up and I have updated the original post. This vid shows how to route your drums from EZDrummer2 AND Steven Slate Drums to individual channels in your DAW for more control over your mixes. Again, many of you guys may already know how to do this but I know I sure as heck didn't for some time when I started recording at home using drum software.

Cheers!

Dude you're putting shit out at such a pace... I've got some catching up to do! Well done.

Man I am trying! I have been using my lunch breaks in the office to knock them out. I just recently got the right software to capture my screen recordings and it's been at least a year and a half since folks started asking me for tips on how I do my drums.

I'm really trying to diversify my channel as well. I figured, since all this stuff was super tough for me to wrap my head around when I first started recording, there HAD to still be people in the same boat as I was (and still am on some things.)

The last vid on this series will be about getting some quick wins for getting the drums even closer to "final mix good" with EQ, Compression, side chain compression and using buses for verb and all that.

I know there are guys WAY better at this than me and that's great. I also know I found all this stuff super intimidating at first so I am trying to also walk people through the steps as well as my thought process as I can.

Checked out Vol 1 - great stuff!

I always extracted by soloing the instruments I wanted to keep and recording the audio output.

Later I would add compression, etc on drums, bass, etc.

But never futzed with the MIDI export... cool beans!

Very cool! Glad you found something useful! Chex out the other vids. I know it's about a 2 hour time commitment but there may be some other nuggets in there. I apologize if I ramble a bit on the vids but I am a talker for sure! LOL!
