Anyone have experience with these versus traditional tolex?

I've seen a few cab builders offer the option, namely Splawn.

It seems like a good idea that could be very durable...but maybe someone knows of any downsides.

It effects the tone and resonance.... That could be good or bad depending on your taste.

What kind of effect does it have? Or is it more cabinet specific?

I only heard it on one cab .... So I do not know. It lost resonance and got brighter. I plan on building some 2x12's and using it.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I hope a few other put a few words in on the topic. I'm interested myself...

I have it on a Marshall style head cab from Ceriatone. It does scratch up quite a bit. I wouldn't do it again personally.

Search YouTube Splawn 5150II, and hear the dual cab with Duratex. Sounds good. Actually sounds like a Splawn cab. I've owned the tolex 4x12...

I've done two or three with it now with good results. Prime it well and make sure to put on enough coats then let it cure. I use a fine nap roller.
