I play guitar in a loud band.

What ear plugs do you recommend to reduce db's and retain the full spectrum of sound?

Thanks!

I got a set of custom molded units about 3 years ago. I have -20 or -15 discs that can go into them. They work amazingly well!

I'm using an older set of North Sonic II hearing protection with the metal cylinders in them. They were bought out by Acu-Life which makes the same ear plugs except they're clear and not flesh colored like the original Sonic II ear plugs.

They sell for around $11.00 on Amazon. They're much nicer than the typical drugstore foam ear plugs and cheaper than the custom made molded hearing protection.

I use cheapo ear plugs, but keep meaning to stop by that audiologist on the way out of Sam's Club and get fitted for some pro ones. One of these days.

After years of ringing ears, i finally got tired of blasting my ears and grabbed some Westone WM16 plugs. So much better than the cheapo plugs, can hear better and still get protection. I found a guide online that was helpful, ill leave it here for you, maybe you will find some nuggets for yourself. I do suggest plugs tho, night and day difference.

I found that wearing ear plugs and muffs together works well.

I’m not sure you’ll get there without custom molded ear plugs, but it might be possible. I use custom Westone.

I did the custom fit ones years ago and I'm really glad I did. I think anything takes some getting used to. The biggest thing for me was getting over the feeling of being disconnected from the crowd a bit. Things do sound different, but but it's actually better in that there is more clarity between instruments. AND my ears don't feel pummeled.

As a guitar player I like these:

Others may be even more linear, but these do not make the guitar disappear and kill some of the hihat zizzle and rimshot brutality. The sound files are accurate.
Some do the opposite, go figure...
I like them better than Alpine and my custom made ones.
