Early 80’s silverburst

I’ve been out of the loop on pretty much all things guitars and amps for a few years now. But I was just looking around on Craigslist at different Les Paul Custom’s and I stumbled across a 1981 in silverbust and he wants $8,000 for it. When did the value on these things sky rocket? Or did they? I seem to remember these running maybe $3k-$5k or so. And it seems most other finishes are still in that ballpark. He is saying it has something to do with an Adam Jones signature model. I understand everything is a little more expensive these days but this seems a bit much.

Wow, another crazy price. Not up on the prices on silverbursts, but that seems very high to me. I know its a seller's market right now, but I mostly see that for lower priced items. But just look at Marshall JCM800 prices for example, crazy.

Dang I didn’t realize those had gone up too. Guess I shouldn’t have gotten rid of my 2203.

I never understood the hype with these guitars other than Adam Jones played them. I used to be a huge Tool fanboy, so I was obsessed with getting one of these guitars. I have played 10+ of them at this point, a couple played well and sounded good, a couple were average guitars, a couple were boat anchors...real dogs. There is no "magic" to them. Pretty much any LP Custom will play just as good or better. Now with that said Gibson probably IS coming out with an Adam Jones sig and idiots will pay whatever they want for it just because of a "magik paint job".
