This might be a bit out there/OT, but I am looking for a drag and drop style music creator based on loops/samples (that are included/provided) with capability to manipulate them...Way back when that would have been sonic foundry acid, but I am not really certain what the right path would be today?

For context, I am wanting to put together a simple rig for my 10yr old to be able to play with and create edm-ish music (if you have a similar aged kid and have experienced geometry dash, that is the target). Not my cup of tea, but I want to encourage him in anyway possible. He is smart as shit, so a bit of a learning curve is OK, but the barrier to entry can’t be that you’ve been working with DAWs for years. I also don’t want something so simple that he’s bored of it in a month, so ability to grow into advanced features is a definite bonus.

Sony (now MAGIX) Acid is still the best for that stuff. FL studio is supposed to be decent too.

Fruity Loops. It is the perfect introduction into using a DAW, using samples, editing, implementing FX and forming signal chains. If you can learn Fruity Loops...from there everything else falls into place. Download the free version and let him mess with it. There is enough there to see if he is into it, you can even export files to wav/mp3 (just can't save in the free version). If you end up buying it...it has lifetime free updates as well so you always have the new version and features.
