eBay percentage question.

If sell a guitar for $725 on the bay, what percentage will they reap? If its steep I might just cut the price down and post on here at rig talk bro price.

Expect to lose 10% to ebay and 3% to paypal (also ebay) if you do a regular auction. There have been some suggestions here recently about using buy it now auctions to get better rates, but I don't know if that is correct. You could dig into the Ebay info to find out for sure.

as you said it's about 9 - 11 % , hurts =( i usually put a BIN/offer , a bit higher to compensate for the fees

Before you list something you can figure out the fees. Bin/best offer is less than half of auction fees. Put a higher BIN price than you really need and accept best offers. Make sure you set the automatically accept offers level to you bottom $$. It is the only way to sell anything over $100 on Ebay.

feebay knows they are still a good place to sell things and so they charge accordingly. I agree it sucks. Last time I used ebay regularly, it was around 6%, not surprised to see it up to 10% now though.

Ebay's fees suck, but it's honestly better than paying a store 20-25% commission to consign a guitar, otherwise you get hosed on what they will buy it for.

The biggest thing that pisses me off is that Ebay has their fees, takes a cut out of your shipping price, and then paypal(which is owned by ebay) double dips on the total price. If you ship international or something that has a high shipping cost, the seller ends up paying more in fees, which is total BS. It makes it really hard to break even on anything you buy unless you got a stellar deal on it to begin with.

Ill buy stuff off ebay but fuck selling stuff on there, Ebay no longer takes care of sellers all the power is in the buyer's hands and top that with their fees just makes it not worth my time anymore.
If im going to lose 10-15% on a sale id rather just pass the savings on to a forum member than fatten their pockets.

Agreed. I went with buy it now and best offer. Made the sale last night. Thought I'd save a few bucks with using the buy it now/best offer. ebay still took $48 from a $760 transaction. Pay Pal took $22.
$70 = 10% between to the 2 greedy fucks. Total bullshit. I will now be using Rig Talk first and eBay as a last resort. Whoever thinks the middle man gets fuck on deals is a dipshit. rapeBay and scamPal can go fuck each other.

Pay pay's cut was because the buyer paid with a charge card. As much as I hate all the fees, Ebay is still the best way to sell something outside of the forums. Craigslist is hit and miss but I have done ok with it.
