Ebay sucks in so many ways now......

Ebay sucks, I only use it for small purchases now. My only problem with dealing on forums however is all the people wanting to be paid via paypal gift. If I don't know someone, screw that noise.

I don't mess with Ebay either, their sellers fee is just way too high. But, thankfully we are in a free marketplace and hopefully more sites will rise up to compete with reasonable fees.

I still have the best luck with Craigslist. Been doing CL on both buy/sell sides for years now with great results. Out of 50+ deals with strangers, I've only had 1 guy that was a dick head, that I can remember.

I very rarely sell anything on eBay anymore. The game is rigged against you. I'd rather wait and sell on a forum than deal with their bullshit policies and fees.

I'll buy on eBay but fuck selling there. That site is a complete piece of shit for sellers.

I've been an Ebay member for over 13 years and have a 100% positive Feedback score of 305+. But out of all of those transactions, less than 20% were selling. Maybe closer to 10%. I've always hated selling on egay, and with their newer policies have little desire to do so again.

BTW... thanks for the heads-up on Reverb.com. I hadn't heard of that site before. Just created an account. So nice to have an alternative to fleabay!

I am dealing with ebay right now. The buyer got a good deal on what I was selling and because a part wasn't on the unit, that I didn't even know about or use, he wants a refund. He never asked any questions and bought it within 30 mins of my listing. I even offered to supply the part and he said no. Now we are probably going to ebay peoples court.

With a 40 year old piece of analog gear and wanting it brand new. Now ebay has my paypal account in the negative because they took out his payment. What really bugs me is that he is a dealer and not someone using the gear. He thinks he can't make a huge profit.

I am pretty close to being done with them.

I don't use eBay for large sales. So, no problems here.

one major problem with ebay...and folks in general buying gear (Rig Talk included)

LOWBALLERS

I agree with much of the comments about Ebay, I like selling on forums like Rig Talk much better and buying/selling on the forums has been good mojo for me and makes me feel like I'm keeping the gear "in the community" so to speak but sometimes you just can't move something if it's not a current much talked about piece or giving it away. If you really need to move something Ebay has a wider reach than forum trends somewhat, but you pay the price.

Unless you give it away and then sometimes you still get lowballed, it's pretty bad for sellers right now with some exceptions like I mentioned.

Despite that I still love gear and deal with it but it can be frustrating.

I agree, 10% plus paypal and shipping really kills your bottom line

Just had a guy on TGP offer me $200 shipped for a new, mint Charvel San Dimas body. He lived completely across the country, so after everything I might have netted $160-170? It was an absurd lowball offer, so I just said "Sure, that sounds fair." He replies "No need to be snarky...good luck"....yeah, no need to be snarky......but it's fine to send insultingly low offers, which he must have known if he took my reply that way.

I often get messages commanding me to end the auction and sell my item to them for less than half of the listing price.

"you end the auction and sell to me for $xxx"

That's copied and pasted from an ebay message(price removed). lol

Lowball offers.....CRAIGSLIST   Have a trailer listed cheap for a quick sell @$700 and people send me emails "....Really broke I can do $300..... " :gethim:

You should reply back-

"These are not the prices you are looking for"

Tried it, doesn't work through a fiber optic cable :aww:

Then on the other end of the spectrum you have the $10,000 PAFs.

There was a "WTF" buying experience on here today too! Seller agrees to a price, buyer even agrees to "gift" funds to keep cost down without hurting seller. The seller tells the buyer he's going to get him his PayPal email in few hours when he gets home from work... the buyer goes and pulls cash from an account to put in PayPal to make deal.... not 20 min later the seller sends a simple message "Sorry, amp sold". Not any mention of another buyer or possible backing out. The crap thing is its the guys first listing on this site. I personally think its chicken s&*t!!! He should have never agreed to the sale if he had another buyer!

Rules of buying/selling etiquette should be posted. That's lame...agreement to a price and agreement to sell or buy is a done deal. Both parties need to own up.
Most of the time its not worth pulling the listing at the last minute for $20 or whatever.

The question is, would we all be willing to live by the rules on both sides of the deal. I know I would.

I think if you make a deal, but then back out.... there should be some consequence. Why should a guy be on the board who backs out of agreed upon deals! For someone to say "I'll get you my paypal info here in a little bit"...obviously he was contacting someone else to see if he could get them to make better offer since he had one in place. Its completely horse shit! You need to be honest and say, "hey, let me contact the other buyer and see if he'll beat your offer.... if not, its yours". At least thats honest!!!!

This shit drives me nuts. If a seller comes of demanding or rude/pushy with me I won't sell to them no matter what. Its happened a lot lately from low ball douchebags. Even if they offered my asking price I won't sell to people like that. They will just complain after the sale is done too.
