God dammit. Those fucking thieves! Just got my bill for selling one guitar this month. $280 bucks on a $2500 sale. I wish the government would shut their asses down for inappropriate lack of disclosure and hidden charges. When you list an ad, it should tell you right there, without any links, having to read fine print on what the charges will be.

Rant not over.....

Just thinking the same thing today! Those assholes now charge 10% of the final value! Pieces of shit for sure!

Yeah, it's retarded. You have to sell stuff for more than it's worth to cover the fees.

Someone should start a class action suit for monopoly. Granted, they have grown the business to be the only game in town. Great for the company and shareholders. In times of a buyers market, the sellers suffer. Hopefully their listing sales take a big shit.

Let's not forget Pay Pal, which ebay also owns! They shaft us there as well...twice in one transaction!

If I am a shop and have a guitar to sell with an MSRP of $4000 and probably have around 25% profit margin in that guitar with my cost being $3000. To cover ebay fees and PP fees, that is around 13%, which is $390. So, to break even the price has to be $3390. Add in shipping, that is $3440 or so to get even. The lure of eBay for retailers has been wiped out. I am surprised so many still list on eBay.

Yep

I hate 'em. eBay and PP, they're both fuckin' monopolistic corporatist pilfering whores. I can't stand 'em. PP with the "non gift" avenue, holding funds, and their exchange rates are never in sync, and, if you just so HAPPEN to flip-flop funds that same day, there's always a deficit from US > CAN > US or CAN > US > CAN dollars. WTF?!?!!? :gethim:

Or how about their non-interest bearing holds?

I've had it.

I don't mind PP so much. A 3% charge to transfer money to me is not that big of a hit. My finances don't revolve around 3%. But, 10% for eBay is a totally different story. The actually don't do shit but provide a parking place for your item. PP holding your funds is not right though for the seller.

Agree, Ebay is shafting. If I see something from a retailer, I call them. But Ebay still costs them in listing fee's.

yeh it's getting rediculous.
I never sell on there anymore, and always try to do an outside of ebay deal (yeh, yeh, I know...) and am able to bring down the price by a few hundred at least on big $ deals since it works out for both this way....
remember back when you wouldn't even think twice about their fees??

I do remember when their fees were reasonable and acceptable. Still, I think there's a crime being committed here. It's gonna be a cold day in hell before I sell on there again. List maybe and sell offline.

feebay indeed

i take the hit for pedals, but anything over 2-300 euros i insist already on no paypal --> wire transfer which helps a bit, but ebay still slaps you on the head with hefty fees either way

unfortunately it's still proven to be the most effective way of selling stuff, certain guitars and other stuff that'll sit on forums/small ads for ages, sell in like a week or less (i usually just list BIN with shipping included)

yeah its a shafting but they run the game.

These local ads like craigslist and kijiji are options but there are some sick people out there as examples in the news.

I am sure the people who run businesses through ebay get some sort of high volume discount so probably don't get as shafted as the individual.

There is always going to be someone trimming of the top, that's how they get rich, and if I could do it I sure as hell would too.

"It's gonna be a cold day in hell before I sell on there again. List maybe and sell offline."

that works. you can't type your email address for communicating but there are ways around that.

yeah, there's all sorts of creative ways to do that. one is embedding in a photo.....

Basically 100 on every 1,000. I paid the bastards over 600 recently. Much easier place to sell with the right gear but you pay for it and its not like you can jack your price up to cover it or you won't sell.

I dont like getting screwed on fees but it really infuriates me that when I list an item with a buy it now only, that they dont tell you what the fees is.
They used to tell you now you have to figure it out.

It sucks. Ebay gets 10% and then Paypal (also Ebay) gets another 3%, and that includes shipping charges. I've found this to be a useful calculator.

http://www.newlifeauctions.com/calc.html
It allows you to set what you want to make, and calculates the Ebay selling price.

I sometimes say right on my Ebay ads that I'll sell cheaper off Ebay. I'm sure if some asshole ratted me out they'd pull my ads but so far I've been ok. I've sld a few items that way. For some reason some people don't trust buying or selling off Ebay. I tell them what's the difference? You stiill use Paypal so you're covered. The only way you fuck yourself is if you use the gift option to buy something then a seller tries and scams you.

And yeah, I almost forgot...FUCK EBAY.

Steve, Forget the monetary aspect. Using PP the seller has zero protection. If this guy who just bought yer guitar doesnt like the gauge strings you have on it, he can file a dispute and its over. I sold a neck and the buyer {after a week} says it was damaged. I had a ton of pics from every angle and sent them all to PP. I figured it was a no brainer. PP finds in favor of this guy and i'm out $$$. The ass kicker was that he emailed me after the whole mess to tell me he just wanted to copy it and didnt have any intention of keeping it cause he didnt have the money....
