JP11(black) has the alder body while the JP12(RED) has basswood. Once dude gets to the higher gain tones the vid is pretty cool.

I really prefer the alder body JP. I don't like the Basswood one.
The basswood body does not resonate and sustain as much as the alder body.

Interesting. Have you A/B'd both yourself?

Not directly. My roasted neck had a basswood body while the bfr is alder.
It's the main reason I sold it and got another bfr.

I have an early BFR. It has a discontinued finish (emeral green) and the D-Sonic/special Petrucci neck pup. I play the hell out of it. I love all my guitars but my EBMM BFR is far and away the best built, highest quality axe I own. My BC Rich will prolly go to the grave with me but my EBMM is so well made. Killer guitars. I cannot believe how under rated EBMM is around here.

I'll never understand why they don't get more praise around here.

IMO, it's because they don't make much of an attempt to cater to their customers' wants/needs....but, only to the artists that endorse their instruments. Naturally, I can understand why that would be, but to me, they just come off cold and callous to their customers' concerns. They don't seem to appreciate input, and have more of a "this is the way it's going to be, because we said so" type of attitude. And, unlike makers such as Suhr and Anderson, they don't offer a custom shop, ...although, I can understand why due to financial reasons. Also, I personally have little respect for the company's owner/president...I know what kind of person he is, and I'm not going to elaborate on what I mean by that....but, there are others that know what I mean....just a whole lot of bad mojo running all throughout that company to me. Even still, I do like a lot of things that they've got going on with the construction methods they employ on their instruments....even with the occasional problematic issues I've seen or heard about them from time to time. That's my .02, take it as you like.

Interesting cause I tried to buy what ended being 2 different BFR's when they came out, both had issues, sent them back to them, said they would make me one right (these had obvious issues which ironically in guitars I have seen since have been corrected) and then said no we won't build you one and take this one or leave it...I was like really? Almost $3k guitar with these issues? Scott Ball was a complete dick to me so I said fu**in keep em...and then bought my first Suhr...and now I have 5. Sorry Scott, guess you didnt need or want my business...my experience, take it for what its worth. I've seen some nice guitars from them since and I still have the regular Petrucci 6&7 I bought before this happened and a 7 string loaded is for sale now in the classifieds here but i can't see myself buying another anything from them after that experience. Even the dealer was like wow, sorry dude...one of the issues was an obvious design problem where the string coming over the nut was hitting the fretboard material (rosewood) just behind the nut causing the strings to bind. No amount of fussing would fix that, they now sand/shave that area directly behind the nut down so the strings dont hit it behind the nut. Caused it to never come back in tune after using the wammy bar. Again, just my experience

Yep, I have to admit that I've heard many stories similar to yours...(some with the same issues as you've mentioned). This in a nutshell, is exactly what I'm talking about. It's really a shame, because as you said yourself, they have actually made some really nice stuff from time to time.

I love the JP series, but I despise the company. I got banned from their forums for mentioning my JPX had some VERY minor finish issues with the finish. I know several other owners that has happened to. That's why I'll only buy their guitars 2nd hand now.

I know the forum is very touchy. Oh well. I love the JP6 BFR I own and for that reason could easily see me buying another guitar from them. Although I did recently have an issue with my guitar and not extremely thrilled they wanted me to pay for the parts even though the guitar is less than two years old. Cheap easy fix so I'm not up in arms about it.
