I'm going to be getting a Friedman BE & a 4x12 cab soon & I'm thinking about getting the EC Collins grill cloth.

Does anyone have this kind of cloth on their cab?

Does it make a difference or is it just hype?

I have this cloth on my cabs, it is expensive & does smooth out the tone a little, mainly rolls of the sharp high frequencies. I wouldn't necessarily say its better, it's a variation and something to have in your toolbox. Cab design & speakers play a more vital role. I will say it is a little more tolerable playing for a few hours in front of as the upper mids aren't as fatiguing in your ear.

My favourite is still the salt n pepper weave with most styles, however with lower tuned and high gain I like the ec cloth. Just my opinion :)

I really like smooth warm creamy brown type tone, so any harsh upper frequency would be a joy to get rid of.

Do you thing this type of cloth is worth is for such tones?

I don't play down tuned modern nu metal so that type of tone will never be required of my gear.

I'm really just looking to put together the ultimate plexi type head & cab set up & at this point, money is not as much of a consideration as good tone is.

I think with the amp you mentioned, the BE it isn't as much of a consideration as its a quality amplifier and quite refined for a plexi style amp.

I think you should spend some time with the BE when you get it and try a variety of cabs/speakers before you invest in costly grill cloth. Not to say its not necessary but something as specific as grill cloth takes time to know exactly what your going for instead of hypothesising on what's always "better tone".

You'll be surprised with what's already there, my philosophy with gear is to get the core components right before you get to grill cloths, start at the beginning of the chain from guitar..then end up at grill cloth, otherwise your stuck with stuff you can't undo.

To answer your question if I think it's worth it for such types of tones, my answer is ..not so much with the BE, but then again I feel it would depend on what you would consider harsh upper mids.
I'd email/call Jim from Scumback as he has direct experience with plexi style amps and ec cloth, he should be able to be a little more specific for your given application.

Cheers

Unless you have money to burn or really just like the looks of it don't get it, not to mention the be is a pretty thick amp so brightness or excessive high end shouldn't be a problem.
