I got the BBE as well

To me, the BBE is right in between a 808 and a SD-1. It has the lower to mid-mids of the 808, and the aggression of the SD-1.

I see the 808 as more low to mid middy, and smooth. The SD-1 is more upper middy and crunchy/aggressive/gritty. I think the BBE is a good mix of those 2 without being too much of either one.

It is weird to me as I am used to the 2 extremes mentioned above, but I am digging it as well. I think it is a nice balance of other TS based pedals I have.

Did anyone mention the OD-808? It's a good pedal, I feel it's a bit overlooked at times.

Who makes this? There seem to be a lot of names that are very similar, which adds to my confusion

Maxon

Interesting. I didn't get "aggression" out of the SD-1 at all. To my ear, it seemed just more compressed, like more distortion, but not in a usable way. It seemed to be more of a tone shaper than it did add gain. I dunno.

Additional question: How is everyone swinging the dials? gain 0, level max, tone noon is what I have been doing.

Level maxed, Gain just cracked on - seems to make it a bit more ballzy/crunchy, tone to taste- mines usually around 10-11:00 (on my 808)

All tubescreamers are more compressed, have more distortion, and are tone shapers

To me, the SD-1 is more aggressive than TS/808 types. It has more of an upper mid attack/edge to it than the Ibanez types. It also cuts more bass. It is more metal ;)

The Ibanez types are smoother, and not so... "extreme". The TS9 types are brighter than the 808 types, which are smoother overall.

I generally keep he level cranked, gain at 0, and the tone around 10oclock or so. I like a bit less treble. But, if I am using a lower to mid gain amp like a JCM800, I will crank up the gain until I have enough. Into something more modern like a 5150 or Recto, I have the gain at 0.
