This thing looks like it would be great for recording and looks rock solid.

Pros :Very easy to use : Just plug in and play. Very Quiet.. moreso then any iso box Ive tried. Can be used for a dummy load for slaving. Can be used for a live rig by just plugging into the PA. Very lightweight and compact:

Cons: Cant adjust mic position: Cant swap out speakers :Can sound boxy:

How hard is it to dial out or attempt to dial out the "boxyness" when recording?

He posts at HCAF, I remember when he launched this and it looks great.

IMO for putz's like myself the Axetrak would work very well.

The axetrak looks awesome, but being able to change mic's and speakers on the fly kinda puts the deadroom at the top of the heap. Although I should probably just build a 4x12 iso box so I can use the stuff I already have. It would be quite nice to fire up the vplexi at 3am and not wake anyone up.

Every ISO box that I have tried has that Boxyness to it. It can't really be dialed out but it can be masked by some clever uses of verb and delay.

What do you think of the Grendel Ralph? It looks freakin sweet! Not that I have any funds to get it at the moment. And even though I had the option to change out the speaker, etc, wonder how often I would actually do that?

My advice to you is that if you need a quick recording method and yo don't want to dick around with mic placement and all that then the axetrak is the way to go.

If you need more flexability and you don't mind the added PITA of micing and you also want to use your own speakers then the Deadroom would be the way to go IMHO.

that said, you are handy so you could probably build one yourself but the price of the Grendel is pretty good to not have to go through the hassle of building one yourself.

FWIW I've tried the AxeTrak & didn't like it at all. Maybe it's good for a guy sitting in his bedroom & making a demo CD.

You have a hotplate? Just get a Red Box speaker sim or a software plugin speaker sim and run direct that way. I haven't tried the Axetrack, but I built a 1x12 iso box way back when. Speaker sims (especially the new software ones these days) don't have that boxy tone. Maybe not as plug-and-play simple as the Axetrak, but if you already have a hotplate it would be cheaper.

I think the Grendel looks exactly like the Randall ISO box but they fixed the problems that they had with the Randalls ...............like it being noisy as hell lol :D
I think that its a good buy.

It can be used as a dummy? How so? How much can it take?

I use it as a dummy load brother. It can handle about 75 watts. It wont handle a cranked plexi on 10 though. It works really well with the boogie.

very cool Steve. I do something similar but instead of using an iso box, I have a nearby small closet in my studio that i sound proofed and leave a 4X12 in there with a ceiling mike and a close mik to speaker....works pretty good.

Cool! Based on the smokin' clips you have posted it is obvious you are getting some killer tones out of it!

Doh, I thought you meant it can do a load, not function as a semi quiet dummy. I get it...
