So i just got my EG 3/4 yesterday and as Jeff is going to find out when he gets my message, its f***** brilliant! Just what I wanted to cover leads and warmer sounding rhythms.

I am hopefully going into the studio this next month and I am definitely also going to pick up a COD, but I want something else to go with the EG 3/4 for tracking rhythms. Would something like the SL2 work well or can a simple EQ tweak on the EG 3/4 get it in the ballpark? I was also thinking about the ERECT but since I typically dont get along with the "modern" hi gain type of voicing and I cant try these out before hand, im a little leery. A boosted SL is also in consideration.

Heres a little intro clip of the song I am going to be recording so you can see what I am going for, it was done with a Laney VH100R which does the hot rodded marshall thing pretty well.

I'd recommend the SL2. IMHO the SL2 and EG3/4 are similar in tone. The EG3/4 is rolled off some on the highs and has a bit punchier mid-range. But the SL2 I dialed in pretty close with EQ and preamp tube changes to what the EG3/4 does, where I felt I really didn't need to keep both the SL2 and EG3/4.

The SL2 will get you want you are looking for, and also something to look into is the EG5. Its a great hot-rodded marshall / SLO100 type tone. I love it. I use the EG5 for my rhythms and the SL2 for my leads.

My standard SL module was a fantastic performer in the studio. Great to use OD pedals with and get lots of shades and colors of tones. It's a studio must have IMO, but not as high gain as the SL2 or EG3/4. The EG performed super while tracking to.

Thats one of things I was thinking of, but do you think a boosted SL would be able to add something as far as thick rhythms go? I would hate to try in the studio only to find out it cant hang with the EG 3/4.

Well, I guess if you have the EG3/4 and the SL hangs in a slightly different Marshall place than the EG3/4 then you really have everything covered with no problem right?

Absolutely, I know it will dominate the mid gain classic rock area, I just wanted to know if when boosted it has enough punch to do chunky hard rock rhythms.

Oh yea, it's definitely got the goods. Channel B gain all the way. It'll get you where you are looking to go. That's my standard set up, Sl & EG3/4.

Yes, the SL, SL2 and EG3/4 are all on my list but I didn't realize you could get the SL2 close to the EG3/4 with EQ! Maybe I'll just get the SL2.

How is the channel A of the SL for clean? I am wondering if that would give me some versatility using the SL in slot one of my MOD50 so I could use A for clean when I need it and B for rhythm. Will it give typical Marshall cleans? I jammed with a dude running a DSl 50 and the cleans were passable and fine for most gigs. Heck, a friend of mine just gigs with a DSL100 and nothing more.

I think it's great. Most people go for the Fender type cleans. Nothing wrong with that but Marshall clean tones are overlooked a bit. I love it as my main clean channel.

That works the other way too; you can get the EG3/4 close to the SL2 as well but the 3/4 has a slight boost in the mids on the B channel that makes it great for solos and I think the A channel has a bit more gain too.

Agree with this. The SL does a great clean really, especially with single coils. I need to try it with my LP. Now if you have super high gain pickups.......I don't know about that, but I'm planning on using the SL for my "clean/med. crunch" for my April gig. Just hope I have my 112 by then........hint hint Jeff!! Any word from the supplier??

Agreed ... I'm using the mid gain, Suhr nickel covered in the lead position of my Les Paul. Nice clean tones, I'm sure that would be a little harder with mega-high output PUP's.

Well I got my SL today. All i can say is HOLY HELL! That module is soooo bad ass. Its quite different than the SL2 because its more juicy, wet, and smooth (oh that sounds soo perverted....well because the module makes me that way!!! ;) ).

I tried a bunch of different tubes in it, chinese 12ax7a's, eh 12ax7eh's, tung sol 12ax7s, ruby 12ax7a's and every combination pretty much of each...with one in V1 and another in V2, and vice versa...blah blah blah.

Well, the best, tightest, yet still smooth and creamy came from the 2 tung sol's in V1 and V2. I LOVE IT. It matches up quite well w/ the COD. I have the COD in channel A dialed in very low (about 8:30) on the gain for a gritty clean tone, channel B on the COD at about 11:30 for a killer "tube screamer in front of a deluxe" type of vibe...(without the tube screamer of course!)...the SL on Channel A with a light crunch channel...and the SL on Channel B with a lot more gain at about 2 o'clock, and it sings!!!

John is right. This module takes pedals VERY VERY well. I threw a voodoo lab sparkle drive, a boss ds-1, a fulltone octafuzz, a mxr evh phase 90...etc in front of it...and it sounded amazing!!!!

Its a definite keeper. I'm in blues rock heaven with the COD and the SL in the mod 50 :).

Well...sure ....I guess I am !!! ;)

I have "played" every one of them now. I own the T/D, VX, COD, SL, SL2, and EG5. I borrowed Jason's E-rect for about a week. Got the bassman w/ my Mod50 order, but returned it for the SL. Now, I am about to sell my EG3/4 as I can get the tone "close enough" for my liking w/ the SL2. The EG3/4 and the Bassman were just too dark for my liking.

I'm now waiting for the Super COD. So yes...I'm proud to be a module whore!!! ;)
