Hello there!

First time poster here. I have been eyeing the Egnater Rebel and need some informed advice. First, a little about myself and gear. I have been playing guitar for 25 years (grew up on 80's metal). I am currently using a Fender Strat outfitted with a JB Jr in the bridge and tex mex's in the middle and neck. I am also using a few Fender FMT Tele's...one outfitted with a JB in the bridge, one outfitted with a Pearly Gates in the bridge, and one outfitted with a Super Distortion in the bridge...all outfitted with 59's in the neck. I am also using a Line 6 M13 for effects.

I am currently playing in a band with some guys from work (haven't been in a band since college) and we seem to be gravitating toward modern rock/alternative (Green Day, 3 Doors Down, Blink 182, Maroon 5, etc.). I am trying to put together a rig that will sound great for this style of music and is small and easy to move (half stacks are pretty much out of the question these days). I am captivated by the styling of the Rebel as it looks like it will fit the bill. All of the reviews I have read have been fantastic. The question is, can I get the tones that I am looking for (previously mentioned bands and similar) using the Rebel as a platform? I love the mini stack...so I am trying to stay away from full sized heads. A smaller head on a 212 cabinet (turned so the speakers are stacked one on top of the other) is the direction I am trying to go. Tone is ever important though...so that is the number one priority. I am heading up to GC this afternoon to give the Rebel a whirl. I am certain I won't be able to give it a proper audition on a Saturday afternoon in that place, so I will have to buy it and bring it home.

Anyhow, thanks for any advice on the Rebel 20 with this style of music (a little heavy on the gain).

On a side note, I am also looking at the Rebel 30...but of course it's not available just yet.

John, welcome aboard man!!I would look at the Rebel 30 or the Renegade and be done!!!OOOOORRRRR you could join the madness of MODULAR

The Rebel is a great amp but I would recommend something with channel switching, typically for that genre you want to be able to go from clean/hairy clean to heavy with a footswitch. If you think you can pull that off with the M13's drives though, more power to you.

Thanks for the replies so far. You bring up a good point which I meant to mention in my first post. I use the M13 for everything BUT the drives. I would put a Tube Screamer or maybe a Tonebone Hot British in front. The M13 would go in the loop for modulation, delay, reverb, etc...

What if you were to run the Rebel clean all the time, and use a drive in front for all of the overdrive? Does the Rebel work well like that?

Anyhow, I just got back from GC with the Rebel 20 and 112 cabinet. The return policy works well in this case if it doesn't turn out to be all that I am hoping. Or, I may keep it anyway (even if it doesn't suit our current material) so that I can still do the classics. Another option is to keep the 20 as a backup...it seems easy enough to bring along "just in case".

After reading the description of the Rebel 30, it seems like it would be a little more ideal..guess we'll have to wait and see. I have also been considering the Orange Rocker 30.

Thank you for the welcome! See above post for a few thoughts.

Let's see, the Renegade looks awesome! The head is full size (which I was hoping to avoid), but maybe the combo? I do like the mini stack idea though

As for modular, I'll get one if they decide to make the "Gretchen" module made for Ty Tabor available to the public

That's what I'm doing, using a GT-10 with 4CM. It works pretty well, the Rebel smooths out the digital and gives it some balls. The thing is though, I'm constantly going back and forth with the tube blend, wattage, and MV knobs. So for a gigging situation, I sort of agree with the advice to wait for the 30 or the Renegade to get channel switching.
