Einstein Anomaly?

I have a lovely Einstein 50w head which I obviously adore.

However, after speaking to Joeytpg I thought I should check this out with you guys.

I find on my amp that Channel 1 clean is loudest with Modes 2 and 3 getting quieter and more compressed.
I had read a thread on here which said the modes on Channel 1 got louder and Channel 2 even louder. My Channel 2 has to have
the Channel volume almost maxed to compete with Channel 1!

I have the Tubelit conversion which enables me to change modes, channels and master volumes.
I have Channel 1 gain at 2, volume at 2 and Channel 2 gain at 10 with volume at 4 with the masters at 9 and 9.30.

Any help on this would be most appreciated.

While compression will make it perceived quiter due to flatter highs, the added gain should make modes 2 and 3 louder. That's how it goes in my Einstein at least. Sounds like maybe there is something wrong with the mod or some of the preamp tubes are damaged. Have you tried changing the V2 and V3 tubes?

Ever since I purchased my Einstein, Channel 1 modes go like this -

If the gain is past 2 o clock, the clean is usually always louder than the other two modes.

If the gain is set at like 12 o clock, all the modes are pretty similar in volume (give or take a few decibels).

If the gain is set low, then the clean is usually the quietest mode...


-The only time I can tell a huge difference in volume is the first scenario where the gain is high and the clean is way louder than the other modes.


I always keep the gain at like 1 o'clock, which keeps all the levels pretty consistent for live use!

The way I use it.... well, I tend to 99% of the time use mode 3, but if I switch to mode 1 for clean (currently I do this in 1 part of 1 song with my band ) I switch to the neck pickup & play really quietly. This is only possible because of how responsive the amp is!

Thanks for the link. It sounds as if the mode switch's intended use is that you should set it and forget it. Right? Pick your mode for your style and then adjust gain and volume between channels 1 and 2. And, if you should change modes on Channel 1, you should expect to have to re-adjust the levels on the 2 channels? Is that correct? I'm asking because I've been looking at the Einstein and see myself getting one.

To balance the 3 modes in channel one my gain needs to be set at like 9 o/clock. Most of you reporting this is the case with your gain set at 12-1 o/clock. Why would my particular Einstein gain structure be so different? I do have an early production number 008 but still wondering....

Yes, Einstein is intented like this. When I change modes on channel one, I have to readjust levels on channel one, not on channel two.

But what I do, when I play life, is, that I use a clean boost for mode 1, so I can switch comfortably between mode one and two by pedal. When I switch to mode three, I roll back the volume on the volume knob of my guitar a bit or use a small graphic eq in the loop.
So the levels of three modes in channel one are quite balanced for my needs. You have to tweek a bit, but it is possible to use all three modes on channel one. Takes a bit of work.

One thing that I noticed is that, as I play mainly Ch2 Mode 3, if you roll the volume right off it cleans up very well, even with EMG 707s. I've started doing this now, but am still experimenting. Mode 1 sounds nicer, but in the situation that I use it this is not as necessary...

I live on Mode 2, and roll my volume knob down to get my clean, use Channel 2 for my high gain, and a Fulltone OCD as a slight gain boost for solos.

Works for me.
