EJ show tonight at Canyon Club (john mayall and paul gilbert

K, IMO, the show was SICK.

EJ played just about all of my favorites and then for the first encore, plays Steppin' Out and All your Love (bluesbreakers tunes) and John friggin' Mayall comes out and plays keys and sings. Eric of course did his best clapton impression EJ style. Next... out comes Paul Gilbert to jam with him on Spanish Castle Magic, then another encore and plays some more EJ. Sick. Sound could have been better for Gilbert and Mayall, Gilbert seemed to just be using a plexi RI and HW cab with some pedals and he sounded a little thin/quiet. Nonetheless he was burning and had not surprisingly better stage presence than EJ. Mayall's vocal sound seemed a bit thin too which I think may have been a problem with his mic more than his singing. All considered, great show, and glad I had ear plugs, though I usually bring 'em to every show I go to anyways.

I just got a music-woody when you mentioned EJ doing Clapton!

Sounds like a great show... haven't seen Mayall, but Gilbert was a trip last January, great player and didn't take himself too seriously at all. And, EJ, well, he's just unreal. I've seen him once or twice, and it was just amazing.

Seems like Paul is getting some great exposure to jamming with the greats....I was surprised to see him at the Uli Roth Academy Concerts in Hollywood..he just kinda set up a Vintage Modern combo, walked on stage with his pedal board, made some jokes and jammed Hendrix stuff along with Roth!...

I saw EJ last night too. Great concert.
Ne nailed the Clapton vibe during Steppin Out.

Mayall and Gilbert had great positive stage presence too. A real treat to see them.

My friend and I were seated at a table up front next to the the right house speakers and all I could think was, this is going to be the absolute worst concert ever being next to the 18-inch bins.

Then, when the show started I realized all I had to do was move 2-feet, and I was out of line of sight of house speakers, and then I woke up and realized, hey, I'm 3 feet from Roscoe Beck, 10 feet from Eric Johnson, and Eric's facing me - full frontal guitar viewing!! It was the absolute best concert ever.

I snagged the set list. Looks like the audience gave up too soon. He had three more songs on the play list he could've played including SRV.

OBTW - Gilbert used a single green pedal with a blue LED. Am sure it was not a TS-9 or tube screamer.
Also, EJ played a bunch of new forthcoming pieces. I am huge EJ fan, but not totally feeling all the new compositions yet, they are definitely of the Bloom style as opposed to say the Venise Isle style.

Damn that's why I said *almost* all my favorites, he seemed pretty tired by the end though, no? Hmm... could be a keeley modded TS-9 maybe? they have blue LEDs? I agree on the new pieces, some of the playing was awesome, but seemed like he hadn't totally owned/internalized the songs/vocals yet. Still...
