Electro Harmonix 6550

Hi guys!

Just wondering whether you have any experience with the EH6550? I am looking into new tubes for the VH4 and could imagine that I'd like some 6550s in my amp (based on some descriptions here)... however, I am not sure which one to choose. So, how do/did you like this specific one (EH)? How does it compare to, say, the SED 6550??

I am currently using JJ EL34Ls, by the way.

I am not a fan of any EH tube....power or pre. For 6550 I would only go Winged C. The EL34 BHT's I am liking more and more if you want to go for a juiced up 34 sound. They work wonderfully well in our amps.
 
Duolos have an Einy ,I'm running New Mullard El34's .I talked at lenghts with Acy from AGL he likes the winged c el34's.Do you think the BHT are better than the winged c?Would like to hear other feedback on choices of el34.Maybe nbarts has an opion,I think he liked el34 in Einy. :confused:
 
SED 6550s are the way to go if you are going for the 6550s. I have them in both my amps. Reliable & sound great!!!
 
Cool, thanks for your feedback so far! So it seems SED 6550 would be the way to go if I should try some 6550s!

I'm also still thinking about trying out some different EL34's instead of the JJ eL34Ls I'm currently using. I really really liked the SED's sound-wise but I think I remember Peter (or was it someone else?) saying that they were not that reliable anymore or something like that (?). Mine did fry on stage, which sucked - but that can happen with any tube I guess.

I would indeed like to try the EL34BHT's but I can't seem to find them anywhere here in Germany... if you know a dealer around here, please let me know! How would they compare sound-wise to the SED EL34s or JJs?

IDK...all the SEDs i used lasted a long time for me with zero issues.

check with Peter on getting some BHTs. he could steer you in the right direction if that the route you take.
