Hey all!
Been using EMG's for 30 years. Tired a ton of 'em, and always come back to the 85 for the feel, roundness/smoothness, and great output. Just sounds great on high gains and cleans. Always thought the 81 (and the 81x) were just a little too shrill.
Recently picked up an EMG 57/66 set for my Jackson Rhoads RRT-5. The 66 is great in the neck, the 57 awesome in the bridge. However, the 57 has a slight brightness to it (very subtle compared to the 81). Was thinking on a whim to swap the 66 into the bridge as it sounds a little beefier.
Anyone done that before? What was your experience?
Just wanted an anecdote or three before I swap 'em out to see...
