anyone used these? thoughts? how do they compare to v30's in your opinion? I don't have the opportunity to try them, and am looking at a cab with them. the Chinese v30's I had sounded good for the most part, but were pretty fizzy, particularly with my Mesa Roadster. less so with my VHT. with both heads, they were kind of flubby with a seven string. will most likely be tuning in C rather than B from now on, moving from a seven with Blackouts to a SG with passives, most likely a single BKP ceramic Warpig in the bridge. I wasn't 100% stoked on the v30's with my VHT and was looking for other things to try, but had no idea what. I will be running a stereo setup with an older vintage head, like a Sunn Model T or a Sound City 120, and thought I would use V30's with the vintage head and something else with the VHT.

any info or thoughts much appreciated

I havent used the Governors, but I really like Swamp Thangs and Wizards with my VHT. Slightly different beasts, but a great complement of speakers.

They sound good. My splawn cab has a Govna, and a ManOWar....together they sound killer. Eminence to me have a warmer sound than celestions.

Never heard the Governors in person.
With V30's, I really only prefer the Mesa UK T4335 version with my VHT.

The new Chinese T3904 V30's are thin and fizzy by comparison. I just pulled them out of my new Randall cab. I have two other T3904's that are better, but they have more miles on them and are in an OS cabinet so that really helps smooth and beef them up too. Still not on the same level as the Mesa T4335 V30's though.

Read my post (Van Noord) at the VHT forum and the great response from sfryette regarding the story behind VHT's attempt to make V30's the OEM speaker for all VHT amps. Fascinating stuff.

Rig-talk had a HUGE controlled environment test comparing chinese and mesa V30's a few years ago. I do remember many people actually liking the chinese models more in the comparison clip.

Saying one is better than the other is subjective - i know i was one of the ones that actually preferred the chinese model. Lolzgreg was also one of the others if i remember correctly and even he personally seeks out the chinese model for its more raspy tonality.

With as many server changes and cleanings as we have had since then i am not sure if it still exists but a search might yield the results if you have the time. Other comparison clips that were shocking were the neutrik cable ends comparison which was also equally shocking.

As far as govnor's - i like their solo tone alot. They handle volume well and respond to many microphone types very well. I also like them mixed with another speaker but i do not like them on their own...depending on the mix they can sound muffled.

Yeah you are right, it is totally subjective.
Another thing to consider is that there is a difference between the sound of a recorded V30 under a mic and the sound of a full tilt performing V30 in a room.
I like the Chinese ones too, but to me, what they gain in that raspy bite, they lose in size and girth. That bite combined with their cone breakup at stupid loud volume levels can get, ugly.
With the Mesa V30's I can add that raspy fizz if I want it, but you cannot remove it from the Chinese V30 or add the deep thickness of the Mesa V30 without the Chinese V30's lowend teetering on collapse. Speaking in terms of high volume abuse, that is.

What I was initially getting at was that VHT's tend to gel better with the Mesa OEM V30's than the Chinese.
Other amps will obviously require their own analysis on that matter.

Not sure if my Governor V Man O War demo will be of any use?

yeah, i saw that thing from Steve about the V30's...really interesting. def makes me want to find some mesa v30's and throw em in a nice cab...

  Why not just buy a Mesa Cab? Why are you fighting it man?

Or even a Recto 2x12 at least, they sound great and will suit your D60 wattage wise.

My two Peavey's and my VHT all sound best through my Mesa cab. I'm constantly transfering the speaker cable from the Mesa cab between them before I fire 'em up.

They complement each other well but for me The Governor wins. The Man'O War seems to color the tone in some strange way, almost like a Greenback, but missing some key frequencies. The Governor sounds fuller and more tonally rich.

IMO The Governor 16 was great for rhythm and leads on the gain channel but felt very flat and dull on cleans.
Same cabinet model, Legend V1216 and Swamp Thang 16 are a much better choice, Swamp Thang 16 having a fatter feel on cleans.
If you do nothing but high gain you may really like The Governor 16, to me they seemed V30-ish without having a harsh mid spike.

LOVE the Emi V12 16.
I have, and use four of them regularly. They blend AWESOME with V30's too.

ha. maybe that's true. I'm "fighting it" because my Mills cab sounds amazing, and I have yet to play a cab that sounds better (including a mesa cab, which i have heard), but I think there's things about chinese v30's that could be better, notably the fizziness and the flub in low tunings, which I've noticed with chinese v30's in several different cabs.

...and your Mills has Chinese V30's right? Likely the T3904's. Have you every opened the cab up?

I havent looked but im pretty sure thats whats in there. guy i got it from was spnsored by mills and said it was chinese v30's. they sound like chinese v30's to me.
