I've got an Engl Fireball 100, and I absolutely love it. It's a fucking beast of an amp. IMO, it's the best amp available for the brootz. It's my first Engl and I've got the fever, so I'll probably score another one in the future. I don't need a 4 channel amp like the Savage, Invader or SE, so a two channel will suffice. I'm thinking Retro Tube 100 or a Blackmore. I've listened to the clips and I dig. Who's had them? What are the similarities and differences to the Fireball? Are they so different than the FB that it would be worth having one? What say you?!!!

I have had the powerball, the savage 120 and the savage SE. Just got the extreme aggression (a fireball variant I believe) from cujo. By far and away my favorite ENGL so far. I don't need a bunch of channels I won't use, I just need the heavy channel. Both dwisted and juggy Mike have been over to try it and they both loved it too, and both of them had my other ENGLs at one time or another. Super simple, not a bunch of switches and knobs I won't use. Gate works great. The mids are choice IMO, and I love cranking them and cutting thru like a mofo. But tbh I am a Kreator fanboy, and wanted one since they came out, so I am wearing rose colored glasses.

Not sure if you are a fan or not, but Vivian Campbell was using two Blackmore's (straight in) last time I saw "Last In Line" live. After watching last weekends show footage from Jimmy Bain's last show before he passed away, it appears that Vivian is sticking with the Blackmore's. Although I just saw a Marshall behind him, in the Starmaker video.....but that could be a backline rental head, just for the video........

He said that the Blackmore's nailed the early stuff that he did with Dio, perfectly. I think recently he has been adding some effects, as they play other Dio stuff (ala' intro of Invisible ,etc). But after hearing the Blackmore amp in raw form, it is definitely an amp that I will buy in the future.

Yes, it is a variant. I believe it's a Fireball voiced to be even more brutal yet. I'd love to try one, because I can't imagine an amp getting much more brutal than the Fireball.  I also love it's simplicity, and yes the gate does work great. I've had the FB side by side with an Uber Rev Blue and a Cobra, all through an Uberkab and a Mills Afterburner, and IMO the FB ate them both alive. The FB is just as thick as the Uber, but much, much tighter. For tight, percussive picking, I think the Uber needs to be tightened up with a clean boost. Compared to the Cobra, it's got more grind and growl, and a more defined low end. I dig the Uber and Cobra, but I'll take the FB hands down. I'd like to hear it through the Engl Pro 4x12, but I can't imagine it sounding much better than it does through this Mills that I've got.

Yeah...Vivain is using a couple Engl Blackmores currently. That amp or the Artist Edition E651 would be nice options I would think.

I remember when a video for their first show in L.A was posted here a few years ago. Somebody that was there commented and said that Vivian decapitated everybody in the room with his guitar tone. I just listened to it again recently, and it really was killer. That's what's got me thinking about the Blackmore. I also heard a great clip on YT of that German dude (speaking German) and playing a black LP through a Retro Verb that's been haunting me.

Love me some Engl. I have an Invader 2 and an Ironball. Both great. Never played the Blackmore so I wish I could help u there. Do u want something similiar but different power tubes or an amp to cover different ground?

I know the Savage 120 has multiple channels, but the heavy channel simply crushes!!!    Those 6550s sound massive!!! Kind of miss mine, but hopefully my buddy will keep it a very long time and if he needs to sell I can buy it back from him.

No, not something similar to the Fireball. Definitely looking for a different flavor. I'm really leaning towards the Retro Tube from the clips I've heard.

Yes, I've heard killer clips of that one as well. I diggin the whole Engl line.

In that case, compare between the Blackmore, retro, and especially the artist edition imo. The Ironball is awesome too if u don't need 100 watts. I'd say the ironball fits between a Blackmore and the fireball from the clips I've heard.

Get an Invader! That thing... Woah. Four channels that cover a regarded number of genres.

FB100 is by far my favorite of the Engl amps I have owned and played...

Just scored a Retro Tube 100 online from Guitar Center used. While I love the voicing of all of the Engl's that I've heard, the RT100 is probably the most different than my Fireball 100. EL34's, open and less compressed with a juicy midrange, it will make for a nice contrast to the FB100.
