Anybody have any experience with this amp? I think built around 91-92...I have a chance to get one, it sounds killer, but getting a good feel on value is tough- I'm already planning ahead in case I need to flip it, lol. I've seen people try to get 1200 on eBay (no sale), and others on reviews paid 400-600 a few years ago. The asking price is in between, it may be too high, but it does sound killer for Hard rock, and actually does a surprisingly decent modern metal tone as well. Oh, I think I just talked myself into it...my other choices would be to snag a single Rectifier with the hopes of sending off to FJA, or just flat out not spe3nding the money as this is want, not need

I had the combo - was great, built like a tank, no issues. Just sold it last year.
I know that is what Lynch was using back in his ENGL days... check out his instructional video.

i didnt even know lynch had engl days, during around what time period was this?

i always saw george with the synopsis of modified lee jackson SLP's, the purple and red tolexed aspen marshalls, and SLO's, never heard of Engl being used at all. was it something that was put on record at all?

The amp I am considering actually is G Lynch's amp from the Wicked Sensation tour and the famous instructional videos. I like the tone Lynch has, but in person, the amp seems to have a lot more ability to give full800-ish mids than I would have thought...and with a few flips of swithes it had a surprising amount of chainsaw ability

Positive: it was Lynch's, handwired and sounds great
negatives: it's an older amp that's been on tour= wear & tear ? It was serviced recently...

I don't much about techie stuff, but I guess if the caps are relatively newly replaced- it should be good to go?

might be selling my fja single rec soon. it's the one from the videos. trying to solidify the dual recto fja mod now so i can let the single fla rec go.

So, I jammed out at my local shop today.

Engl Straight: a handwired head previously owned by George Lynch
This amp has a kick ass Marshall 800-ish but more gain tone. Excellent tone, great for leads, cool cleans, beautiful reverb. In the end, I'm more of a chainsaw/angst kind of guy and less of a beuatiful tone guy....but this amp is a tempting piece. Very rare and historic. Not enough tightness for modern metal, but rules for hard rock. Even though there are lots of options, there's not really a crunch tone that is inspiring, so not really a "rock" head. I used it with a 6505 cabinet (yuck) and a Randall 4x12 (much better clarity).

Peavey 6505 with matching cab
Awhile back I had a chance to get a 5150 & cab cheap, but opted to go for a Salvation S1S0 (which I LOVE). I never actually played through a 5150 or 6505. Crazy levels of gain, oodles of low end....but thumbs down on the clarity and low end mud, it really needs to be modified to bring out the strong aspects of the amp. It has a cool mid range tone. I spent a lot of time dialing, but in the end, my ears have been spoiled my modded mods. It doesn't help that the price tag was 1850! On a USED piece! Granted, it was in excellent shape, but just off memory I was thinking it should be half of that. Now I'm home pricing it out and it makes no sense :? Oh well, it's a muddy mess anyway.

Randall MTS loaded with Blackface, Grail, and Scary
Ah, home sweet home. I thought I wanted the Engl until I plugged back into the Grail & Scary. Real cool stock modules, Gain between 12-3 oclock, lots of mids and treble and it is a good sound. I plugged a Keely modded TS into it and it was sensational.

I walked in with GAS but left buying nothing; I confirmed my belief that MTS and the modded modules are fantastic.

It's NOT my head, just passing info

Heya Ray! I just bought this amp, what else can you tell me about it? Thanx, Mark

awesome score! Not really much more info than I listed, but I'm sure you'll dig the aggressive rock tones. Really great sounds! Did you get it shipped or are you local?
