Epiphone 1984 Explorers

Anyone have any experience with the Epiphone 1984 Explorers? My band is looking into putting together a Metallica set, so playing an explorer is almost a must ;) Any thoughts on these guitars?
 
The store I teach at has a black one. I'm not an Explorer guy nor am I a fan of EMG's but this guitar is one of the coolest Epiphone's I've played. It feels more like a Gibson.
