Epiphone LP Customs are....

Depends on what year we're talking about. Current models since like 2015 have been terrible. Bodies like bricks that don't resonate at all with terrible electronics that break easily. Not to mention the sucky fretjob.

Most of them I have played haven't been great - especially the electronics.

Even for the price I think there are better options.

that being said, some people seem to love them ?

Back in the day I bought a brand new one from a dude I know for $100, then sold it for $400 like two days later lol.

It was a good guitar; with some decent replacement pickups I could have rocked it

Cheap import guitars that give Gibson a run for their money in the quality control department. (Which is more of a dig against Gibson than a plug for Epiphone.)

Some of the late 90's to early 2000's Epiphone Les Paul customs were on par with the Edwards build quality IMHO. To my knowledge the custom models were solid mahogany bodies with a maple cap and they play well for the what the prices were. My brother bought one used and it had to weigh in the mid 9 lbs range, it was black with gold hardware, I don't know if was an ebony or rosewood board or not it was a pretty dark fretboard. I installed a Suhr Aldrich bridge pickup in it and it was a ripping guitar that stayed in tune well and the neck was comfortable. I did pickup up a Gold Top Epiphone in the same year range with the Gibson truss rod cover and the quality was not nearly as good as the Epiphone LP custom that my brother had, he got lucky with that guitar.

I did owned a Lemon Drop Edwards LP and the Epiphone custom was right there with it quality and playabilitywise.

So I would only recommend the LP custom models, there were also a MIJ Epiphone LP's around the same time frame but those go for quite a bit more and those were also at least as good as Edwards/Greco LP's.

I can't remember the exact years but the good MIK ones usually had the GIBSON name on the truss rod covers.

I just bought one a month back.

I stripped it down to swap the gold hardware for chrome and load it with a set of Blackouts, but every step of the way I was very surprised by the quality of the components and construction. CTS pots, Grover tuners, beautiful black ebony fretboard, and the stock Probuckers sounded really good.

I like mine so much I'm considering grabbing an SG Custom to go with it.

I want the Alex Lifeson Epi model.
Because I won't spend the big bus for the Gibson model.

Like any other guitar in their price range. Mostly ok with some really nice ones and some really crappy ones. I have a Silverburst that I liked so much that I went to get another in black... Couldn't find one that was worth it.

i havent played one, i have watched a few recent blindfolded gibson vs epiphone tests though and guys can never tell the difference

i find them to be quite sexy...other than the hs... it just doesn't suit me.
there are a couple that are floating around locally...fairly inexpensive (i guess). one is 400, the other 675. bit of a swing for the "same" guitar. the funny thing is the one for 675, the guys says its the best guitar he's ever owned and he's only had it for 4 months lol

i've never played one, but i still think a LP Studio, mid 90's would be a better fiddle than the Epi Custom.

and in full disclosure, id really rather have BeyondBlacks Bacchus!

I will say I definitely prefer the "new" Epi headstock. Big improvement over the old one (which was hidjuss)

Haven't had the chance to play any of the new ones yet though.

The new Epiphone Prophecy line looks fantastic to me; been very tempted to pick up the V

yea...that does look good, got to admit it

the ebony boards they put on the Epi customs, i think that's what pulls me in.

i was looking at some newer Lps/Strats, etc this week in a shop and the pau ferro is just gross... can't like it
