Hi guys,

Just wanted to know what do you think,

Is it a good idea using an eq pedal such as mxr 10 band eq to beef up my tone? like leave the pedal ON all the time.

Thanks! if you hace other suggestions to improve my distorted tone that will be great! looking for a high gain tone such as doug aldrich.

Cheers!

Eq pedals can be noisy. You could aslso try better tubes or different speakers, or pickups.

Yep

From my experience different amps/loops take them differently. With my Ultralead it was like taking a blanket off the amp. Opened it up immensely. With my Uberschall it wasn't as drastic but I still leave it on all the time. I barely boost the high mids for a better cut.

Will definitely beef up your amp but it will depend on your loop. With my amp I can leave all the settings at zero and still hear a slight difference when the eq is engaged.

If you don't have a loop though it may not do much for you and yes it can get a bit noisy when you're not playing.

The MXR 10 band is the shit. I use it exactly as you are asking about. Set it and forget it. I use it to boost the highs and the bass on my Dual Rectifier. Won't ever use another amp without and EQ in the loop. It changes everything.

Let your ears decide. A BBE pedal in the loop does wonders and it is usually left on all the time. I can't play my amp without the built-in GEQ on, it sounds like shit without it.

I've been using an MXR 10 band in the loops of my amps for years. Always on. Try it. You'll probably dig it

Hmm. I always found the eq pedal works best in front. And the MXR and Boss are very noisy, cheapo Fish n Chips was quietest and most transparent in front of my Marshalls. But an eq pedal is a great addition whether in front or loop.

Yeah that fish n chips is definitely the best eq for the money. I just like the makeup volume on the MXR.

The Boss GE10 is a great choice! not noisy at all in front of the amp..was one of EVH's favorites in his early days, Lynch still uses one I believe as well!

Everyone seems pretty hot on the graphic eqs but I'm curious what the feeling is regarding the parametric eq pedals currently on the market?

I am a huge fan of Parametric EQ's and not a fan of Graphic EQ's. Once a person tries both they will choose the parametric every time.

I've heard this as well. Have never tried one so I didn't really want to mention it without experiencing it myself but the masses seem to agree.

I think even more so for my application since I boost a certain area. I guess it would be like a fine tuner and nail a specific frequency.

But yes to the OP. Definitely worth a test run. Many people even seem to like it in front so even if you don't have a loop it may benefit you and what I said earlier may not be accurate for you. Only your ears can judge.

EQ pedals are noisy...

unless...

you put a preamp of some sort in front of them to feed them the (boosted) signal they're actually looking for, instead of the wimpy signal your guitar puts out.

Impedance.

Not my experience at all. Tried a few, graphic for me. But I'd like to try a vintage Furman..

Eq pedals are necessary to shape the tone. Pre distortion eq is ovdten ocerlooked but even more important. I prefer parametric to all. Vfe and empress products are king.

This times a million!!

I guess my experience is if an amp is average or a little disappointing to you try an eq in the loop. If it sounds great without, it may not need it. But a loop eq did help a Randall RD 100H I had, much better with a loop eq. Seems to take away though from the top shelf rigs I've owned. But, I've never had a TC 1140 or Furman, or any other top level Parametric for comparison. Need to find and try one of those.

Ive used a source audio eq in the loops of some of my boutique amps,if even for just a different flavor with great results.+ it has 4 presets.

I was pretty much done buying pedals.....till you came up with this.
The "Auto Scroll" feature is crazy cool
