ESP Eclipse vs. Les paul Custom

Hey guys, I have been running an ESP Eclipse with a JB duncan in the bridge position for a while now but I have been drooling over Les Paul Customs for years now.
I am curious how much of a tone difference the Les Paul would be with the JB vs. the ESP.
I don't know anyone that owns an LP so I would just like to hear others opinions that have had the chance to play both.

Come down to the shop and you can play my LP Custom and your ESP through some Diezels and get a feel for it.

You're making the incorrect assumption that LP Customs all sound the same...not even remotely true. You have to play the actual guitar in question to see if you like it.

I agree that all guitars are different but, he doesn't have a particular Les Paul Custom in mind just the difference between a Gibson and a ESP. The Eclipse will sound very different from a Les Paul due to its size, thickness and the way its made.

Maybe, maybe not. I think it will only truly show the difference between his ESP and your LP Custom. It should certainly paint a decent picture in regard to playability and feel, but tonally its a slippery slope. I've had very different guitars dialed in to sound nearly identical so I think its dangerous to state that different construction styles and materials will necessarily sound different. Likely, yes...definitely, no.
I guess my point to the OP is to play as many as you can...you'll be able to form a much more informed decision.

I think a better comparison would be LPC vs an ESP Eclipse Full Thickness
