Eventide Eclipse...just two effects??

This might be a dumb question, but I read about the eclipse, and the brochure said that you can have one or two algorithms going at once. Do they by this mean that the unit is unable to for example run a reverb, delay and pitch shift at once?

Ok, so an algorithm is just a fancy word for a preset? Or am I missing something?

Yeah I read the algo manual. I couldnt really find a good answer to my question...what I'm asking is; can I combine effects freely? Can I have a reverb, flanger and whammy going at the same time? I realize I'd have to make the preset myself, but is it possible? Or am I limited to two effects at once? Is an algorithm the same as an effect? Phaser is one algo, band delay is another, pitch is another...is that it? Does anyone here have an eclipse? When you design your own presets, are you limited to two effects in one preset?

Sell that piece of crap Eclipse like I did several months ago and buy an AxeFx. You'll never look back.

Hi, I don't own one =) I'm thinking of getting a really good Multifx, and I've been told to look into the eclipse. Why is it a piece of crap? Unstable? Why is the axefx better?

Take this from a once avid Eventide user. I owned both a H7600 and an Eclipse. The H7600 was impossible to learn how to operate unless you learned how to program codes/algorithyms with the V-sig program. This was VERY difficult so I gave up and got an Eclipse. The Eclipse was easier to work with, but still was very confusing overall. The effects were great, but it just proved to be too much stuff to deal with. I ended up getting a G-Force, which is INCREDIBLY easy to use. I can create presets and edit all sorts of stuff better than I could on my PODxt!!! And it sounds just as good too...and has intelligent pitch shifting and practically everything the Eclipse has, give or take a few weird non-musical sounds.

Hope that helps!

Unless you find an alfo that has flange and whammy...no...but there a few different multi algo.
That said for sheer amount of fx, I'd go with G Sys...

I should have prefaced the crap comment with "using it live" it's a piece of crap. Extremely slow patch changes. And you are SO limited in how you can build an effects chain. Your limited to what Eventide has created per algorithm and you can only use two algorithms at once. I was like man........this is like a freakin Commodore 64 or Atari or something. The Eclipse however does have some cool sounds but IMO it's best used in a studio engineers arsenal, not for guitar effects.

Don't get me wrong, Eventide has some good products, but the Eclipse is so outdated when it comes to being user friendly.
For the money, you really ought to look into the AxeFx. World class effects, easy to operate and a virtual blank canvas ability to create any effects chain your heart desires. However, if you use alot of effects I would suggest the Ultra. HUGE processing power. I've never maxed out the CPU yet.

I got my G-Force a couple days ago for $600 shipped. Its in perfect condition. Talk about a deal! I love it though, very fast program changes, easy to use, huge amount of effects, including some 2290 delay/chorus's.

I checked out the AxeFX...gotta say I'm impressed at some of the clips on their site. The effects remind me of some Eventide presets, especially some of that space-echo-swell-pitch kind of vibe. The basic effects sound good too. I'm not too fond of the amp models though, and can't see the point of spending that much money on an amp modeler that doesn't sound much better than a POD! Just my opinion though

Its all about the tone to me! This isn't too relevant to the topic of this thread, but I made the mistake a few years back when I had my H7600 and I had a stereo power amp, maximizer, palmer speaker simulator, etc. hooked up like a full-on 80's Vai/Petrucci rig. Needless to say my effects sounded amazing, but my tone was horrible. This was partially b/c of my amp/cabinet (Peavey JSX + Cab), but the way I was forced to set everything up just to use the H7600 just ruined my tone. I sold everything and ended up with a Diezel Einstein sooner or later, and now, a G-Force to go with it. Tone in heaven...

This has nothing to do with the Eclipse per say, but my point is, don't through tone out the window if you get too obsessed with effects. Not saying you guys will (since you guys might know more about this stuff than I do), but my ignorance has taught me a lesson.

Wow, not sure if any of that made sense. Oh well.

I've been using a G-Force for about 4yrs now and I have never been happier with any other multi-fx unit. I used to own an Eventide H300DSX but the damn thing was so hard to understand and program that I gave up after 1mth.

The only other fx unit I would consider buying now is the G-System.

I have been thinking about getting a rack piece. Is the TC stuff best bang for buck? How would you rate it with comparison to other pieces tone wise that is? I always liked the sound I was able to get with the TC stuff I have messed with. What TC/other stuff do you like?

1. I thought people were buying Axe Fx's for the amazing Fx and just continuing to use their regular preamp/power amp rig.

2. The G-Force doesn't sound like a 2290. :gay: :checkthisout:

When it comes to rack fx units, the only 3 names I consider are TC, Eventide and Lexicon. I've never really looked into Lexicon cos' delays, pitch shift and chorusing are not where the Lexicon units shine. They're more known for their reverbs. Eventide units are very complicated and maybe it's just me but if I need to spend more than a few hours trying to figure out how to create your own patches then it's not for me. TC is quality fx + user friendliness.

1. Sure, I suppose that would be a great idea, I just didn't know that was the rumor since it is advertised as an amp modeler.

2. A G-Force has certain qualities of the 2290. Of course it doesn't sound like it, or as good in some quality aspects, but some of the technology has been crossed over (Golden Ratio, Dynamic Delay, etc.). :gay: Look it up.

To me the G-Force is well worth the $600 price I happened to pay for it, rather than paying at least $1500 or more for a used 2290 or $1400 for an AxeFX that doesn't sound any better than a G-Force.

TC is the way to go! Just my 2 cents

I'm not trying to push you. I'm not trying to be a dick.

I got my 2290 for $999.
I use a fireworx and an 1128 EQ.

actually, I use TC exclusively and probably won't buy an Axe FX.

So, yeah. We can be TC brothers :emofag: :grim:

Do I get to play?
As far as delays go...nothing touches a 2290 IMO. The ducking is something I can do without, if I have to duck my delay I use way too much wet signal.
As far as Lexicon goes...there old PCM 41 and PCM 42 are my fav delays after the 2290.
As far as Eventide goes...that's what you get for harmonizer/pitch shift stuff.

Sorry, it just came across wrong I guess! TC brothers forever....
With that said, what do you think of your 2290? I've honesty never tried one so my opinion was based off of internet surfing and recordings I have heard...might have been bad judgement on my part...
