Eventide Harmonizer question

I love the sound of a detuned rig, especially one in stereo.

Would it be a waste of money to purchase an old Eventide for around $1,000 for this effect?

Will newer processors (Rocktron, TC) achieve the same sound?
 
You can purchase a newer Eventide eclipse V4 for around $1000 used if you're patient and look. It does the detune plus a TON of other things that the old H3000s did, and is easy to set up for W/D/W capabilities. I've used the TC chorus in stereo, it gets you close to that sound, but not quite there.
 
if i could spring for it i'd nab the eclipse in the classifieds here for $1200-it would complete my current rig so very nicely!

a long haul powerhouse which is the modern day equivalent to the classic h3000

especially if you intend to expand in the future with multiple processors and external mixers and all the goodies most guys evolve into when jumping into rackland.

has italo's library on it which is a major plus and worth at least a couple hunski if you bought it from him directly
