Basically, I'm looking at building myself a versatile board that I can either use totally in front of a borrowed/rented amp or as a drive up front/modulation in the loop type thing of my own amp.

I already have a compressor, drive and wah that I'm happy with and I'm buying a Suhr Riot for my heavier overdrive needs, which brings me to the three multi fx units. I know that I definitely need tap tempo delays, reverb and some kind of modulation. I used to own the Timefactor and know the delays are superb and also know that it can do a pretty good fake chorus type thing with modulated delays as well as a passable verb.

How do the Nova and M9 compare? How are the delays? How are the actual modulations and verbs? The advantage I can see with the Nova is that I can run it totally in front of an amp as a stand-alone if I wanted to. Plus it's £20 cheaper...

TimeFactor rocks - period. But to do everything you're asking - INCLUDING some decent time delays, I'd go with the PitchFactor - does a ton of shit... Out of all three (I guess now FOUR with the new Space stomp), the PitchFactor does the most stuff, and does it really well. YMMV, but if i had to choose only one Eventide stomp? It'd be Pitch 1st, Time 2nd, and Mod a distant 3rd.

Just my 2 cents,
V.

Kinda hard to explain, it does a LOT of stuff that's all pitch related, but since you can modify every attribute of the tone shaping, you can get whatever the hell you want out of it. I'd suggest doing some youtube searches, as well, check out the demo off the Eventide website:

http://www.eventide.com/AudioDivision/P ... actor.aspx

Go to the lower part of the page where it shows VIDEOS and there are a few really good ones there. Sure, the ModFactor is more or less going to do more of the ambient stuff, but the Pitch has got gobs of options all in 1 box. As mentioned, I have all 3, and if it came down to it, I'd only keep the Pitch.

Peace,
V.

PF has a killer set of stereo digital delays, and while it doesn't have a chorus per ce', it does have several modes of detune based on the legendary H910, H949, and H3000 Micropitch setting...these aren't technically choruses, but they act in a very similar manner -- they just don't have that swirly sign wave characteristic that a lush chorus has.

I think of detune as a static effect, where chorus is more dynamic...To me, micropitch shift / detune sounds like a 'dry chorus', if that makes sense? All the delays and pitch-shifitng are in stereo or mono...but stereo detune with some subtle stereo delays will give you a killer chorusy sound for sure! Cleans especially just have an added punch and clarity that makes chording jump right out.

Totally agree with Ventura on how great these pedals are...they're all stereo, and they can all handle instrument and line level depending on how you want them set up in the signal chain (front of amp or loop). Extraordinary values.

The Line 6 M9 is pretty awesome considering the price and the versatility. It works really well as an all-in-one and the ease of use is way up there. You can drop it in front of any clean amp and get by for a whole night. The effects quality isn't as high as the eventide but you get everything and an awesome looper for under $400.

i've been very impressed by the m9, it's been on my board since i got it, really useful piece of kit, i just use it for reverb/delay/auto-volume swells in one band, and bass octaver/reverse delay/pitch effects in another, i run all my effects/tone into a clean amp, this includes my gain needs too

the eventide pitchfactor is a serious bit of kit, but with a price tag to match, i don't think you can go wrong with the m9 for price/versatility,

i can't vouch for the nova system but have heard some good things, i guess it'd be down to quality of effects and ease of use between the two
