About three or five years ago, I can’t remember now, I was selling a TV yellow Les Paul Spesial. It was one of the newer ones and this gentleman from the east side of the state, Michigan, sends me a message and says yeah I’d like to buy your guitar for my grandson. And he said that he was planning on making a trip over to Kalamazoo and if I would like to meet him at the Guitar Center in Kalamazoo, which is only a 20 minute drive for me, so I said, yeah sure that sounds great!

So we get to the parking lot and I present the guitar, it was in mint condition, so there really wasn’t anything to worry about, he checked the guitar over he strummed a couple chords on it and he said, yeah, this is awesome. This is perfect. This is exactly what I wanted for my grandson!

So he gets into the back of his car and pulls out this huge binder that is full of checks and I’m like, sir, I don’t want you to think that I don’t trust you, but I really can’t take a check, I don’t want to upset you, but I really need cash.

He said, no need to worry, young man this is from my corporate account. There is plenty of money in here and then he looked at me and he said you obviously didn’t recognize my name from Facebook marketplace did you?

I said, no sir I’m sorry should I have?

Drew Abbott… long time lead guitarist for the silver bullet band!

I felt like such a dork, I was like, I’m really sorry Mr. Abbott I had no idea that that was you, of course I’ll take a check from you and of course the check cleared. I really had no doubt, although it was a $1500 check so he could’ve easily taken me for a ride because of his celebrity status, but he didn’t.

As we were getting ready to partways, he got back into his car and came out and handed me a CD and said hey give this a listen young man this is my latest album that I just did!

He was a super nice guy and very humble. I did not bother him with questions about the old days with Bob Seger. I figured he didn’t really wanna talk about that, actually I didn’t really ask him about anything in his professional career. I didn’t ask him about Guitars or amplifiers or anything like that. He seemed like he was more focused on getting a guitar for his grandson.

I was through security at the airport and waiting on a flight. This older guy walks down the hall towards me...and I'm sure I know him from somewhere. I guess I started staring pretty intently trying to figure out who he was and didn't realise it until I see him look at me and do a wide eyed change of direction. Hahahaha I don't think I'm at all scary but maybe he's been hassled before. As it turns out it was Randy Bachman.

If I would have recognised him sooner I would have smiled and nodded hello and left it at that. I think he's a pretty decent player and a better than decent songwriter.

I have a couple of celebrity stories.

Met Henry Rollins after one of his spoken word tours. He was really cool and made sure to say out until everyone who wanted to meet him did. He didn't rush anyone and chatted with people. My wife and I; along with a few others, talked with him for a bit. We joked with him a little about being in that goofy ass movie Johnny Mnemonic.

Got to meet Yngwie Malmsteen; sort of. He was kind of a douche. He waved to people as he boarded the bus, but did sign autographs. He had security bring stuff to him on the bus to sign. I got my ticket stub signed then me and my group of friends went to the bar down the block. The rest of the band was there having drinks. We walked up just to tell them we enjoyed the show not wanting to bother them. As we started to walk off they were like "hey, where ya goin? Come have a round with us." We spent the next few hours hanging out, buying each other shots, and having a good time.

Lastly I "met" Brittney Spears. This was back in 1999 when she firs broke onto the scene. I was working at Electronics Boutique (GameStop for those too young to remember EB) in the Mall of Louisiana. She was shopping there one day. A coworker and I were on break getting lunch in the food court. Brittney was walking through with her entourage and a hoard of teeny-bopper fangirls following her. I turned to my coworker and "watch this" I walked up to Brittney shouted "YOU FUCKING SUCK, I LISTEN TO METAL!!!!" threw up the devil horns and let out a psychotic roar, then just walked off. The look her and her fans gave me was priceless. It was somewhere between what the fuck was that and pure disgust. My coworker, and a couple of other random people, were laughing their asses off. I was proud of myself that day. :ROFLMAO:

Several. Some short meetings, some hanging out and having dinner or drinks. I don't fawn over celebrity and in the end, they are just normal people like the rest of us.
