I'm in my mid-40s, without a family, so I get bored much of the time. Thinking of starting a joke punk band and writing novelty songs. Should be easy for me since I'm a fairly technical guitar player. There are worse hobbies. Not expecting much in the way of gigs, obviously. Anyone try this?

A friend and I used to play in the hallways at lunchtime in highschool. We called ourselves Rumprot and put out a guitar case for candy

Dude, do it. I'm in my mid-50s and started a punk/rock band a few years ago. We have some funny songs and non-funny but is just fun and punk like lyrics come easier. I wrote all of the riffs and lyrics and have about 15 songs. Hey, NOFX did it!

I did a sabbath thing called jack sabbath in the early 90’s in college. Late nineties tried to do a doom/stoner thing and we called ourselves stoned oak…they were both kinda meant to be funny… it was a lot of fun though.

A long while back, a friend and I recorded some skater punk songs that made fun of the whole scene. Ironically, the songs got around and were well liked. That is until we made it known that we weren’t serious and we’re actually poking fun at the entire idea.

Wow. I guess it helps to let it hang for a while to see if someone is willing to pay for it.
