Every mainstream male country song in 2013...

Seems they all have a formula that they follow, seems to work for them. Unfortunately all these bands and songs sound the same and there's nothing that stands out to differentiate them from each other. They all sound the same to me.

I dug it. Some good Country music came out this year. Not all good but not all bad.

Wait a sec... you aren't bad mouthing 80's hair metal right? Cos that is a no no round these parts, Tex.

Nope. I'm old enough to have grown up listening to all th hair metal bands and I still listen to them all the time. I like the fancy showmanship the players had and the great shred licks. I think music has gotten very stale in the last 10 years. Guitar solos seem to be a thing of the past. The rise of the tv created rock star has destroyed the skills and talents. Maybe I'm just old enough now to realize that's probably what the 80's hair bands did (formulas) is now what most pop acts rely on but it did seem much more entertaining anyways back then for me anyways. And to add to that, I hate the fuck out of Nickelback.

I had a similar conversation with a fellow guitar player at work not too long ago. I said that the current day Nashville scene reminded me of late 1980's Los Angeles. Too many bands trying too look and sound the same caused overexposure and burnout. I enjoy lots of different flavors of music as long as it's NOT this new pop-country crap. I'm from Alabama and just can't see anything "cool" about being a redneck. They say everything comes back in circles. I'd be willing to re-hash the Soul/R&B/funk/disco sound if it meant getting away from this garbage. FWIW, I am a BIG fan of mid-70's to mid-80's guitar based rock. Maybe it will come back around one day. :D

My wife listens to all the pop country music. I can appreciate the artists trying to make a living but it just seems like they are a dime a dozen and nothing seems to have much longevity. I honestly can't think of the last current artist that really struck me and I just had to buy their entire album and that goes for rock and or metal category. The most recent music I've bought off iTunes lately has been Journey and John Sykes live album, if that tells you anything.

Modern country music is just like every other genera. You have artist who actually have an identity (Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, Etc...) and them you have a sea of flavor of the week interchangeable disposable crap. In the long run, it all works out as the true artists end up have careers in the industry. Remember that country music is probably the last genera where fans still actually purchase music.

Since when did artists seeking mainstream radio play resist the corporate mould?

There are lots of great new rock influenced countryish songs. It is fun to make fun of some of it though. It is just 80's hair metal rehashed.

The thing that separates the current crop of pop country artists from the 80's hair metal bands is that you know which ones you want to fuck. Those chics in Poison were really hot.

Drag Queen rockers may want to mock country boy rockers... But no, no they can't.....

I seriously dislike modern pop/country music.
Absolutely horrible. More derivative than any music I can think of.

No redeeming value to me at all.

Winner winner catfish dinner how can you be with that guy that has a smaller truck than me. \:D/

It really is truly awful. Especially once you turn on some Merle Haggard or Hank Jr.

I live in Alabama, and I have met and know some real back woods type people. I can't think of one that talks with the same exaggerated B.S. accent that modern country guys and girls use to sing with. Shit is like one part George Jones to two parts John Travolta in "Urban Cowboy", and BAM!! You've got a hit. I know a lot of people enjoy the genre, but when I hear that phony accent, I don't listen any further.

Don't let those Nashville songwriters use that line without paying you some royalties. :D

This. I can't believe people actually fall for the fake image. You nailed it with the fake accents being more travolta in urban cowboy! It's embarrassing .

People can critique current country (male and female) all they want, but who is sitting at home behind a keyboard and who is making the money? I promise that if almost any one of us was offered a chance to play as a touring musician for one of these bands and make a good paying career of it, we would love that country music haha
