Everyone Does Strats & Teles - How About V's?

There are plenty of custom builders who do Strat and Tele clones, but what about Gibson V clones? I'm not in the market, financially, for a guitar at the moment, but curious if there are any (known) builders who do '67 V's? Ideally, something reasonably priced [think Chubtone pricing.. basically $1500 area would be ideal.]

I've owned an Epiphone '67 Flying V for almost 20 years... It was my second guitar ever, and it's been my only guitar for the bulk of that time. It's a guitar I will not get rid of. However, I recently picked up a newer Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas, and absolutely love the neck. I started thinking what my ultimate guitar would be... and I think it's my Epiphone '67 V with the Pro Mod San Dimas neck shape/radius. Hence why I'm here asking about custom builders because I'm not interested in a V-shaped guitar with a thinner/wider/flatter neck. I'm really after something identical to a '67 Flying V, but with my neck specs (and obviously no Gibson logo on the head stock).

Any Flying V guys around these parts?

If I wanted something 'fancier' (and way out of what my guitar budget would ever be), I'd be looking at Ken Lawrence, but alas I'm looking for something more reasonable and basic.

Bolt-on or set-neck?

If you'd be OK with a bolt-on, there are several shops that sell necks that are very close to Charvel spec and V bodies that would be almost identical to your '67 (Musikraft, USCG, Warmoth, etc.). For set-neck, I'm not sure... the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is McNaught (which are reasonably priced for what they are, but not exactly $1500, either). I've seen old B.C. Rich V's, Jackson V's (not the Rhoads or the King V), and of course Hamer.

I'd think there would be quite a few small builders that could get you what you wanted for that price. Sorry I don't know any...

I love the Dean stuff. Used USA Vs can be had at that price. Dont judge Deans by the import line.

GMW. They'll do a cool V any scale length, any radius, any fret size, any bridge, cool paint, etc... call Lee Garver.

GMW was who I came to suggest.

They do the Sandoval Rhoads shape V, the Jackson shapes, and I believe that they have a '58 shape as well, but that one (with the Heineken logo paint job) is a bolt on.

I'm currently doing all I can to give Vs a chance. From an objective perspective, the body shape offers exactly what I've been after, but I think I need to play one in my environment or for a good, long while to make sure.

I’m basically in the same boat but is there any chance GMW would scallop the board???

Not sure...maybe.

GMP also makes cool Vs, ask C.C. DeVille.

Thanks for the replies.

Replying from mobile, so I won't be quoting everyone I'm replying to...

Would rather have set neck, maybe neck thru.

I've looked at Dean before (mainly when I was considering a Cadillac), but I just don't like the headstocks. When I see an old school V shape I just expect the Gibson style headstock.

GMW sounds like it might be a good option, depending on how pricey it gets. I checked and they do offer the old school style V as a neck thru. Has the headstock shape I want as an option as well.

Someone also PM'd me an mentioned they had a '58 still built by Lays Guitar. I'll be checking them out as well.

And EvilBatman, aside from when I'm sitting in the floor tweaking settings on pedals... The V is just way more comfortable for me sitting or standing.
