Recently purchased an EVH 5150 III Stealth 50w (total beast!) . Have used a EVH 2X12 that I replaced stock speakers with Celestion G75's for a few years with modeling rig. No complaints. Now that I am running this head, I am considering the Stealth 2x12 in tandem thinking the two speaker types will sound killer. Or...EVH 4x12. This is strictly for tonal preference as practicality has me always take 2x12 on the road. What are the experiences people using this amp and difference between 2x12 and 4x12? Thanks!

I've had both cabs and the 4x12 had a bit more oomph or bottom end. But it's not convenient to haul around if you will be playing gigs. It is a back breaker.

Get an FRFR speaker and Two Notes IR unit of some kind. Use the Eddie 2x12. This combination is used live by a few bands and it's amazing. Maxon 808 for a boost and you'll have hair standing up on arms. Eddie really did match his amps to his cabs. 50W for 2x12 and 100W for 4x12. Nothing stopping you from using a 4x12 but this particular amp series despite being versatile is also hard to match with stuff outside of it. It is not a particularly good pedal taker either but that Maxon really does it wonders. Also the Two Notes allows you to use literally hundreds of other cab and mic combinations but the Eddie 2x12 is great for this setup.

These are half decent 212s for the price. But the single handle on the top and carrying 60lbs is not much fun. Had they put in some metal side handles it would make it a lot easier to carry around. It's just as awkward at best.

When I had mine, I ran a V30 in combination with the stock H30 and they balanced quite nicely in the frequencies.

I have experience with both cabs. I own two of the 4x12's and a buddy of mine uses the 2x12.

2x12
- H magnet Celestion speakers
- It has great bass response, but there's also a prominent spike in the high mids that might be a bit harsh for some people, could be the perfect amount of presence for others though. Personal taste and all. If you go with this cab, I might also suggest an EQ in the loop to compensate.
- very light weight for a 2x12

4x12
- M magnet Celestion speakers
- my personal favorite 4x12 cab out there
- great bass response, very smooth mids and highs but still great present high end clarity. I prefer the sound of the 4x12.

I personally prefer the 4x12 but you won't go wrong with either. Just be aware that the 2x12 can have a noticeable spike in the high end.
Either way though, with a 5150 of any kind I'd run as far from those G12T-75 speakers as possible.

Mesa 4x12 OS man... perfect match to the Stealth 50... absolutely love mine! (got it used)

Have had both. Hated the 212, loved the 412.

212 was boxy and sterile sounding.

/\ This.

I tried plenty of different speakers with the 5150 III (including the matching 2x12 and 4x12) and the 4x12 with the EVH Greenbacks always came out on top. It's a very well made cab and I've seen them go used at $500.

But if you decide on another 2x12, I'd grab something unloaded and buy a pair of the EVH Greenbacks for it. Same as the heritage greenbacks but cheaper! They are 25w (even though the spec says 20) so just don't run your amp on 10 and you should be ok.

I played through an EVH 4x12 all the time at a rehearsal studio- that thing was awesome!

I got a mint EVH 4x12 shipped from Guitar center used. I played it one day and took it back to a local GC store. It was way too dull and boxy sounding. My Splawn 4x12 smoked it for fullness and just overall tone. that said...I am not a 4x12 guy. If so, I like angled 4x12s. Straights just seem too beamy and boomy in the lows. I've always preferred 2x12s. VHT/Splawn/Zilla...I'd recommend any of those. I never cared for my recto horizontal 2x12 I had or the Bogner 2x12(not oversized).
