I saw on another thread that the 50 watt combo is a 50 watt STEALTH. Anyone own both and what do you think? How are the speakers? Thanks for any info.

I am not sure that is exactly true. The channels may sound a little more like a Stealth but the main features of the stealth are not there such as independent resonance control for each channel. They sound awesome though... I saw one (2x12) used at GC 2 days ago for $1099 and went to get the money from my house to buy it... when I got back less than an hour later it was gone. :(

I thought the adjustable power level was an awesome feature.

I'm probably get some heat for this. I've got the 2x12 combo. Blue channel is a good as anything out there. Every amp in this category I hear that I like when I play the combo I think it sounds as good or better. I do wish blue had a little more gain. It works best with high output pickups for my style. Peavey Wolf and similar output pickups sound killer! And Red is like the old Peavey only better. There's more gain and somehow it's usable. It's like they took the blanket off the old Peavey. There's more frequencies coming at ya yet it's musical and not harsh at all. The speakers in this combo make a difference too. They fit together very well. When new the combo reminded me of Fair Warning. Now that the speakers are broken in I don't hear that anymore. Love the power scaling. Speakers and power scaling make it worth having the ugly and heavy combo. Green, well I don't play clean all that often. I do like to play Hot For Teacher and use all three channels.

I still love my old PV 5150. EVH 5150 III at least the 2x12 combo is better in every way. Except for the thump and crushing bass. I miss that. Combo has good thump though. Not as much as the PV.

I have the 1x12 version. I heard the same thing where the channel 2 has a bit more gain (similar to the Stealth). I really can't attest to that as I've never played a Stealth. However, as mentioned earlier, the features of the Stealth like the independent resonance controls aren't there.

It's a great amp. Fun to play, versatile, easy to move.
The 1x12 has a 50 Celestion EVH speaker in it. I can plug right into the amp and do a gig. Power scaling works great for low volume practicing and still sounds/feels great.

-yes-

-the blue channel on the 50w combo & the stealth are the same-

-when the 50watters first came out and they were "the amp". there was a FENDER ENGINEER right here at rig talk city, he's the one that said it, I owned a STEALTH, the blue channel is were the magic is, the red channel on the stealth was pretty much useless for anything but lead-(as it was designed)-I remember him specifically mentioning the 2x12 combo,

-check the archives here, I chatted with him, real nice, knowledgeable guy, his contact info was in the same thread, I can't remember if the order of production,.. 50w first or Stealth first...

I remember reading that too ^^^. 1X12 combo. Has no clean channel, clean is like the blue on a regular 5153. Stealth is the same way. Couple years ago I was gonna pull the trigger on one but went a different route.

I own the 2x12 combo and the stealth. The blue channels aren't the same. I've eve plugged the stealth into the speakers of the combo. Still not the same. I like the blue more on the combo. The blue on the stealth is tighter and a little more dry. I still use and like it, just more for tight thrash you stuff, were the blue on the combo has more squish and is 80's like

Are the cleans the same between both the stealth and your combo? I thought I read where it was only the 1x12 combo that sounded almost exactly like the Stealth, complete with a non clean green channel.

Get the 50 watt head, especially if you're gigging. The combo is too heavy and the extra benefit of being able to use different cabs is a plus. Don't need the power scaling of the combo as the head sounds great at low volumes with the resonance turned up some. The blue channel is the same as the combo.
