Hello,

I'm new to this forum. I am ordering a 5150 III 50 watt head along with the EVH 2x12 cabinet. I understand this amp is a bare bones lead amp with no effects. Never played on one and would like feedback from people who have. I am wondering what would be a good pedal to get with effects with reverb, phase 90, flanger, ect. (eddies tone I guess). I know there are individual pedals that have one effect on it (ex. Boss pedals) but is there a decent quality pedal with all those effects incorporated in one? I'm on somewhat of a budget so I don't want to get to crazy with a full blown effects pedal. Input?

Thanks

Jeff

Welcome to the forum! Look at the line 6 m9 or m13 and the tc electronics nova. Any of those should cover your effects

I use a line 6 pod xt live for all my efx and midi switching. I love it. Best set up I ever had.

I'm using the POD HD300 in the loop of my 100w and it works great. I just turn off the amp sims and use it in FX only mode. I got it used for $130, not much more than the price of a single pedal.

Can you run effects at the same time on the pod hd300? And when you turn off the amp sims and leave fx on you get the evh 5150 III tone with the added effects I take it?

Yep. You can only run 3 at a time though (well, 4 if you count reverb) and they are grouped in categories. For instance you can't use a flanger and phaser at the same time. AFAIK it's the same with the other PODs as well.

And yes, I have it so the POD is doing effects ONLY and all my amp sounds are pure EVH. There is actually a button right on the unit "Effects Only" that you hold in to turn everything but effects off. That's how I run it all the time. I don't like modelers at all, so I actually only got it for the effects.

I also have a question about your amp. From what I read on the evh 5153 it has a volume jump from ch 1 to ch 2. Is it terribly noticeable? And in your opionion is ch 2 eddies "brown sound"? Can you get an AC/DC sound on ch 1 if you crank the gain up?

Well, I have the 100w myself. But I have a friend that has the 50w, so I have plenty of experience with it. There is definitely a pretty noticeable jump. It is less the louder the amp is, but we both agree that it effectively makes it a 2ch amp.

As far as ch.1, it can get you close to AC/DC, but it's better used as clean or clean with a bit of break up. Ch.2 will get you AC/DC tones all day long though. I don't know about "brown sound", but it definitely sounds a lot like a Marshall.

Ch.3 is what makes the amp really special though IMO. Best high gain tones I've ever heard.

Is the tc electronics nova system better than the line 6 or Boss products. I want reverb, flanger, chorus, and phasers without any added distortion. Just the tone of the amp. Can I achieve this with the nova? It says something about analog effects. What's this mean? Sorry for all the questions, lol, I just want to get the right pedal for use. I don't mind amp modelers in the pedal but again I would like to keep the basic tone of the amp itself with the added effects.

I currently own a Marshall MG50CDR. This amp is a solid state amp. I've never owned a tube amp and hope I'm in for a treat with the warmer tones. The amp has been good to me but the gain channel didn't have much bite. I guess I can say it was hard to get enough gain to finger tap, pull of and hammer on. Anyways my point, does ch 2 & 3 achieve enough gain to easily pull off hammer on and so on? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks guys!!!

If you use something that has a midi switcher and e, you can avoid the volume boost. That's what I do.
