I love this thing already! Sounds great. Boosted the Lead Channel with my BBE Green Screamer and I was in Heavy Metal Heaven!

Will have a thorough review posted later.

Side note...this head is fucking HUGE. Literally...the size of this thing is monstrous.

Congrats on the NAD. Those 5150 III heads do look huge, I had a Laney VH100R was was massive in size as well.

BTW, what speakers are in your Vader 412 cab?

Custom Eminence Legends I believe.

Nice amp, i had one for 6 months and loved it.
I also used it live and it sounded great with the band.

:)

nevusofota,

i'm seriously thinking of buying the 5150iii. I see that you have a mesa rec 4x12, how does it sound with the 5153? If i get the 5153, i'd like to get a mesa rect 2x12 vertical slant, do you think they work well together?

thanks,,
moe

Played one at GC again when I went to pick up my guitar. I'm loving it more and more. But, there is something about it that seems cheap to me. I know the(my opinion :D )stupid grill just looks cheap, the logo is awful looking, something about the tolex too and it is about 1/2 wider than the cab. That part annoys the hell out of me. Okay, I'm way to OCD about some shit. Especially $2000 shit. Every channel sound wonderful though. Very sweet.

Yo moe...it's 5150III, not 5150iii, or 5153, or 5150three, or 51fiftyiii, or 5one5iftytree, or Fitywon50shree, or Fatty1fattyRe...K?

kingcrimsom,

ok....5150III, got it....sorry about that....it's different on every forum....

anyone tried the 5150III head with a mesa rectifier cabinet, 2x12 or 4x12? how does it compare to the 5150III cab?

thanks,

moe

I recently purchased a new Mesa 2x12 Recto cab to use with my 5150III and run stereo with my 5150 combo for smaller shows. I really like the way it sounds. The guys in my band haven't noticed a difference from my 5150III cab. If they didn't like it they would let me hear about it. It's brand new so I'm still breaking in the speakers but it sounds really good. My 5150III cab sounds a little fuller but that's to be expected. I know you are interested in the vertical cab but this is similiar so I'd thought I'd give you my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info...the mesa cab and the 5150III look awesome together.

I would love to get the 5150III cab but i'm trying to go lighter. Moving my old Ampeg v4 4x12 to practice once a week and 1- 2 gigs per month is back breaking, especially since i'm the one who has all the pa gear to load as well.

if anyone else is using a mesa boogie cab with the 5150III..tell me what you think about it?

thanks,

moe

I love the Mesa 4x12 with my 5153! I recently played a 5150iii through an EVH cab, it sounded good but felt more compressed and "mid-scooped" than with the Mesa. Now granted this wasn't with MY 515three and it wasn't at full band volumes so I don't put too much weight on my comparison. The "new" 515(12/4) have all JJ's in them. I have an early model where tubes were a mix of EHX and Sovteks, so this could have been the difference also. I also use a Marshall 1936 with V30's for small gigs. Sounds good but thinner of course. FOH can't tell anyway because it's mic'ed. I have heard from some they feel the amp is dark, I find just the opposite. My amp is very bright and never put the high's past 9:00 on channel two or three with any cab. I was going to recommend you go ask Victim5150 since he runs a 2x12 Mesa but I see he already chimed in.

Sorry King Crimson but I thought I would just add to your rant :D
