EVH 5150III v2 6L6 head made "tink, tink, tink" sound when doing palm mutes tonight? Help!!

Microphonic pre-amp tube? Early stage power tube decline / failure?
Having played tube amps my entire life, I have found that always having a full set of known-good glass on hand to swap in whenever symptoms arise is the best place to start tracking down unusual sounds and issues.

If it’s only on one channel, you can probably rule out early power tube failure, as that would affect all channels. But, each channel uses different gain stages from the different 12AX7s to generate the differing levels of gain. I’ve got a pair of Splawn heads and the user manual even tells you specifically which gain stages of which pre-amp tubes are active for the various channels. I tried combing the net, but could not find comparable tech info for the EVH heads.

Did you try swapping out the pre-amp tubes? I know the EVH heads run a bunch of 12AX7s, if you have a preamp tube that you know is good, you can start rolling it through each position and see if the symptom clears up once swapped into a specific pre-amp tube socket.
