I've seen some pros and cons on the 50 W EL34 what do you guys think over all is it worth it I found one I'm on the fence on buying it how much better is it to the 6L6 and speakers to go with it.

I think it is a great amp for the price. 3 solid sounding channels, EL-34s, compact size, concentric controls now for clean and blue channel... what’s not to love?

I have not a/b'd the EL34 and 6L6, but all I can say is make sure you get one with concentric pots.

I had both 6l6 versions and sold the one with the concentric pots so don’t get hung up on that.

Huh. That is important to me. I can't have that jump issue.

Could you go a little more in depth?

If you’re using any device to do the channel switching, such as the FX8, you just run the clean patch a little hotter to even out with the blue channel.

I don't use any fancy switchers nor do a lot of people, for some of us it does matter.

Did you notice anything negative on the one with concentric pots over the original?

I have a non concentric pot 6L6 model. I think I've played the green channel a whopping 3 times times total.
I didn't buy the amp for playing clean. I have other better options for that.

Nah, they sound pretty much the same.

That is what I was more curious about.

I would not buy one for cleans either really, but for flexibility in case I needed it it would be nice. If I am at my shop/studio I have a dozen other amps that I would mix first so I wouldn't care there but it would be a little less giggable having equal volume and three channels, one of which would likely be needing cleans.

The blue channel on the EL34 version is very different than on the 6L6 amp (50 watt amps). If you want/need two more modern/heavy channels, the 6L6 might be your best bet. The EL34 blue channel is looser, and has a much more classic rock type vibe, so there is a big difference between the blue and red on the EL34 50 watt amp. Personally, I really like this, and if you toss a boost in front of the blue channel, it gets pretty mean, so there are a real variety of drive tones in the EL34 amp. When I had my 6L6 version, I recall the blue channel being super heavy and not a whole lot different in feel than the red, but it was great too.

I had the non concentric 6L6 and have the EL34. For me they are very different.

The non concentric 6L6 was very woody and stiff. The EL34 is a monster of an amp, period.

@dead-pan have you compared them to the 100?

Just curious.
