EVH Frank or BK Rebel Yell?

I have a Alder/Maple Strat which i just routed from a single at the bridge to a HB, Now i love ED's tone but i dont want it to be a EVH One trick Pony, I emailed Tim from Bareknuckle Pickups And he recommended the Rebel Yell which sounds like a perfect fit, As for the EVH Frank pickup It seems tempting as well but in the clips ive heard it sounds a little harsh and doesnt have a good clean. Any reccomendations?

You need a PAF type pickup. I've heard some people say the MCP 2nd degree black belt is the "best pickup for Eddie's tone". I have one and I can't say that, but I also don't have Eddie's old Marshall to try it out on. I can say it's a damn fine sounding pickup.

+1 on Tim's suggestion on the Rebel Yell. Does pretty much everything really well, very balanced. Hot enough to do rock and metal, but not overly hot to make a one-trick pony.

Yeah, the '78 is awesome. I used to have one in my chopper strat. It sounds really similar to the Wolfetone Marshallhead too.

it's like an overwound rebel yell, less bright, with a thicker low end and more fluid lead tone

For the tone im going for the holy diver would be a little to thick, And i like a tight low end, Which the rebel is better for. Rebel = More high mid and Holy diver = more low mid tone, As the mark iv already pushs lots of low mids im scarred it would turn into mush.

Actually, I was trying to hijack the thread -- I have an ash strat coming in, and was considering the Rebel Yell.

the holy diver is pretty tight for alnico 5
I had it in two low tuned bass heavy mahogany les pauls
it's not a dark or mushy sounding pickup by any means
I even found it too bright when I first played it in standard tuning

the holy diver was one of the prototype candidates for steve stevens, but he liked the other one better, so that other one became the rebell yell, but still quite similar, just underwound
the diver delivered the best lead tone I ever had
I miss mine and I'm definitely ordering another one (hopefully soon)

just make some research on bkp forum and you will find some recent threads with similar goals as yours and some of those guys are quite happy with the holy diver

I research and post there often, Ive owned a PK, C-bomb and CS, And after going back to single coils for awhile i didnt want something insanely hot like the ones i had before. I emailed tim, and my original two that i was looking at where the diver, and VHII but he recommended the Rebel Instead. I would love to try a holy diver and compare them, But i dunno if i afford both right now.
