EVH mini impressions?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm new here (the forum I used to frequent apparently is dying or just simply won't load on my computer; weird considering I've tried three different PCs and an apple with no luck). Anyway, I posted about finding an alternative to a Suhr Badger with that raw open gain sound with great clean capabilities. I was listening to a few demos. The Mesa Stiletto, though discontinued sounded pretty good, but the EVH mini sounded great. My question is how versatile is it? Is it comparable to other high gain amp sounds (rectos, marshalls, etc.; or does it just sound likes its own thing)? Are they everything people praise them to be? For a 1000 new, that's a hellava good price if it's as good as people say. I'm now a metal head but I play a good bit of fusion, classic rock, and prog rock (Opeth, Tool, PT, etc.). Thoughts?

I run a Suhr Riot pedal into the clean my DSL or JVM and it works way better to me. I thought the Mini 5153 was OK, but I did not like the volume jump between channels. Some can deal with it, but it drove me nuts.The riot into the DSL green sounded bigger than the 5153 and sat in the band mix better as well. That being said, I never tried different tubes. It was killer sitting in my living room,but not so good for me live due to me needing two channels.

If you mean Harmony Central, that site has been mostly down for weeks. A lot of folks there have abandoned ship because of it.

How can such a popular site be so fucked up? It hasn't been running right for months.

Its a great amp IMHO . there is the problem of the volume jump between 1 and 2 but there are work arounds for that or if you are like me and just use the volume to clean it up its not a problem at all . It has got more than enough gain ( i never go over 5 on mine) , and can be tweeked to sound a variety of ways .I would say it has more of its own thing going on than to say it mimics other amps .IMHO, For the money i don't think you can find a better NEW head .BTW I got mine new off ebay for $850 it was a few months back so I don't know if you can find them that cheap now . I think the newest model has a built in atttenuater and now it also comes in a combo .
