Hello guys,

there are some interesting infos in an interview from Jas obrecht. In it eddie mentionned that josé added gain boosts to his mxr pedals.

Dweezil Zappa mentionned it in one article on the net, that it was modded and it was a very important element of ed's tone.

In some isolated records you can hear eddie kick a pedal and the volume raises a lot.

Joe holmes mentionned that he has the same josé mod made into his mxr phase 90.

Here it is that's joe holmes josé modded mxr phase 90 :

The mod has a toggle switch but you could make it work just threw the footswitch and no one would ever know about it.

José's stuff is mythical and i think it's still incredible we learn more and more about his mods.

let's hope one day those pedal mods will get available to the public.

In fact the 3 in 1 mod was not his only mod in a plexi he had multiple mods some with extra tubes some without them. He also had his own version of a cascade which is way different from the one wire mod and many other mods.

According to guitarist bryan jay josé often changed transformers of Marshalls and removed the stock components of them to replace them with new ones. Why would he do that ? Dave Friedman mentionned that josé didn't like the jcm 800 because he thought voltages were too low. Perhaps that he changed transformers to raise voltages and had to change components because voltages were way higher. Fun fact raising voltages in an amp makes it sound less muddy and fizzy, specially if you use high gain amps.

Yes they are. Is that the analogman mod ? if yes from what i've read that mod is a quite different from what Joe and eddie got. There are lots of ways to mod a phase 90. The josé mod apparently makes tone a little bit hotter and pushes the amp a little bit harder. Unless someone opens that pedal it's only pure speculation about what it does. But one thing is for sure when eddie kicks one pedal at the beginning of some isolated tracks the volume rises a lot.

It is the Analogman version, though it can be modified anyway you want it from Mike (Analogman) it's a killer sounding Phase 90!
I still have a '74 Marshall Superlead 100w that Jose modified for me in early 1980s also a '68 Plexi 100w that Lee Jackson modded for me.

I usually can find rare item's but mostly more current gear, still even have an old '69 Marshall JTM45, I know Joe from years ago big Jose fan.

Amp_Chaser when I meant more current gear, I was thinking about my 2015 Friedman BE-100 that Dave has modified over the years, number of mods...
When I first went to Dave I brought my Jose modded Marshall, he did a great job and if you had a couple of minutes, I have a song with the BE-100

It's more goofing around Jam (sorry it's not really metal) kind of Hard Rock?

wow having a genuine josé must be so cool. I'm trying to get one that was ordered and modded for randy rhoads but that unfortunately he never was able to use José finished it too late. That tone from your clip is so good.
