My EVH phase 90 just isn't working with my rig. I love it but it just KILLS my tone. Turns it into a muffled mess. SO! It's off the board and now I need a new phaser. I've never paid attention to others cause I'm so used to the EVH one. How are the other MXR phases? Someone said the newer custom shop MXRs have a better bypass and don't kill tone so much.

Any suggestions? thanks!

Check out the Keeley Phaser. Killer.

Also, if you aren't sold on phasing, how about flange? I have the Strymon Orbit and it's a really nice pedal.

if you can find (and are willing to shell out the cash for) a providence phase force, pick it up. otherwise, a subdecay baby quasar is a sweet, versatile phase shifter that's comparable in price to the evh phase 90.

Best phaser I've played by a mile:

I'm still using an MXR phase 90 with the "R28" mod which sounds pretty good (makes the effect more subtle and closer to script tone) but when I can afford the whetstone, I'll be all over it!

what about the custom shop 74 phaser? How is it compared to the EVH as far as tone loss?

I had the same problem and off it went.

Did you replace it? Im looking at the 74 script phase 90. but it has the same bypass as the EVH. Just wonder if it would be different. I see so many people using these two phase 90s I'm just baffled. It kills so much of your tone....

Nah. I didn't use a phase enough to try to replace it.

If you like the way it sounds while on you could just wire it to a bypass looper. I haven't had the best luck with the internal MXR bypass circuit.

ah gotcha! I just found the Retro Sonic Phaser. Looks great and based on the Phase 90. Check it out!

I didn't like mxr phaser's, I now use the retro sonic and it's great.

Mad Professor Tiny Orange Phaser hasn't left my board since I got it

Strange.... I've taken my EVH phaser out of the looper because the difference was negligible. I do use it after a buffer though.

I replaced my EVH phase 90 with a Whirlwind orange box, which is true bypass and is smoother than either mode of the EVH phase 90. I too struggled with the EVH phase 90 buffer.

I also considered the MXR '74 phase 90 modified for an LED, True bypass, and power jack, but didn't want to mess with it. http://www.buyanalogman.com/ProductDeta ... hase901974

I do this as well. VHT V-1 in front and have no issues.
