I'm thinking of getting one of these.

Does anyone have any 1st hand info on the EVH striped series?

Yep, very good guitars for the $, they're essentially a Charvel but with the stripe paint jobs, just as good a quality as any of the recent American, Japanese or Mexican Charvels, they're made in Mexico at the same plant as the current Charvels

I bought a Striped Series neck and bumble bee body from The Stratosphere when they were having a sale last summer. I used my own hardware and electronics. That guitar totally kicks ass. I have about $500 into it. Very nice bang for the buck. I've played the Circles and Stars versions too. Actually, the Stars one I played was at NAMM and had EVH's approval written on the back of the neck.

I have the star and it is kick ass. Except for the fact that the logo isn't centered on the headstock it's a very good looking, sounding and playing guitar for the price...

I wouldn't even qualify it by saying "for the price." The EVH that I have is simply a good guitar, period.

The bridge could stand an upgrade, but that's an easy fix. If super strats are your thing, these guitars are killer.

Thanks guys.

It's settled, I'm getting one ASAP.

Now I have to decide between the Yellow & Red striped ones.

I think the red may win out since it's THE iconic VH design......but the Yellow is from my fave VH album.

True..great guitar all around! Plays good and sounds good, regardless of price!

Problem with the red one is that it looks nothing like anything Ed ever played. The white and bumble bee ones are pretty accurate.

Except that when the Frankie was white it never had a Floyd , I would have been all over that one if it had the vintage Strat style trem

I had a yellow/black bumblebee. Was a nice guitar for sure, and to me better than 3 mexi- Charvels I tried off the shelf at some stores in Mpls. Even though all are MiM, the striped was a better sounding/playing guitar. The fret ends though needed to be filed. Sharp ends.

I played a red one at GC back to back with a b/y Charvel Art Series. EVH r/b/w was better in every way. Charvel felt lifeless by comparison. Not what I was expecting a at all!

I would like to buy a y/b one. Paint the headstock and get correct Charvel logo. Gold Floyd and
instant VH II replica. But I think the red one is hard to pass up. I'd like to get one sooner than later. Probably grab a used one r/b/w to save a couple bucks.

Played a strpped series. Sounded good but had sharp fret ends. I wonder if they are not drying out the woods long enough. Ive noticed this on few that i tried.

The guitar guru in my area said that this is the case. I had my b/w one sent in for the sharp fret issue. He told me that unfinished necks ars notorious for that problem, and that it may happen more than once. He said that the wood had not stopped shrinking yet.

That's what I did, except for the gold FR.

Rick, which pickup did you install? Double-cream so I assume it is a DiMarzio?
