SO small! I'm noodling here on my Stealth and while the guitar sounds awesome, the frets are insanely small. I feel like I'm just plowing thru the strings like a brute. I normally play .11s and pretty much all my guitars have 6100 jumbo fret wire. I had requested that the Stealth be set up with .11s prior to shipping, but I'm starting to think they put .10s on it. I can't tell if it's the small frets or the strings that is making it feel this way.

Would a pro refret be considered heresy? To me, it would make it a better guitar (I know a lot of people avoid this guitar because of the smaller frets) -- I just don't want to totally kill the value of the guitar by changing it. Then again, I'm not planning on selling it, so maybe I should just get some jumbos installed?

I didn't like them on my EVH at 1st but after a couple of weeks I got used to them and loved them. It was my 1st guitar with SS frets and I can say that every guitar from on will have SS! I never knew what I was missing.

I feel your pain. My two best Wolfgangs are almost unplayable as I have had the frets dressed a coupla times and have worn them down to "suggestions" of frets.
So I've got two re-frets to do. I'll go 6100's. I was thinking about the same fret size as OEM but in stainless, however after building a guitar with stainless frets I don't think stainless would be a good thing for the Wolfgang.
I've got another Strat that's nearing completion that has 6000's on it. Who knows, maybe I'll like those.
For now though, I'm planning on 6100's, regular nickel frets.
edit: FWIW mine are Peavey Wolfgangs.

I would never think a guitar is worse off for having jumbo frets, personally. So I say go for it :D

Fwiw I have 6100s on my strat and tele, the gibson stock ones are smaller but don't bother me.

A pro refret will not alter the value of a modern guitar in my opinion. In fact, I think it would increase the appeal to more buyers if you did ever sell.

I don't know why I'm a little gun shy of frefretting this particular guitar? I mean, I've had my Les Paul, and Fender Custom Shop Strat both refretted with jumbos. I'll likely do this one too.

FWIW they are small b/c I have read Eddie loves small frets. I think his explanation was it has better intonation??? I am like you larger are easier to play. Seems like Suhr primarily uses heavy frets. Seems like the way to go to me. Why make it hard?

If you are going to keep it make how you want it. Otherwise you may decide not to keep it. The stealth looks pretty killer to me

Dude...don't even think twice! If you dig the sound and overall feel, replace those fuckers, ASAP

Couldn't have said it better. If you bought the guitar to PLAY the guitar, get that guitar in playin' shape and don't look back.

V.

I think if it makes it a better guitar for you, you're doing no harm to anything except (possibly) resale.

Hey Mike,

I refreted my 1957 Les Paul with 6100's, go for it.

One thing I don't like about my 02 R8 is it's thin vintage frets! How did your 57 LP re fret come out?? Got any photos?
