I just ran across this axe yesterday & I'm really liking the specs. Seems like an EVH "LP Custom". With the same cost as the Gibby it's pricey, but it's made in the Fender Custom shop so assuming the quality is there the price seems par for the course for a CS type guitar.

Has anyone played one? Is the quality there to justify that price? Does it capture the "LP tone" well?

Thanks

I've heard these guitars kick ass. They say the Japanese version is just as nice with the only difference being where it is made and the lack of an archtop. I'm planning on getting a Japanese one soon.

I really dig the EVH stealth. Too bad its so expensive.

I remember hearing that that the imports had shitty fretwork....is that still the case?

I thouht the EVH guitars were made in the Jackson portion of the factory...

I highly doubt that was ever the case, as I've seen nothing but consistency from EVH/Jackson Japan. Sounds like someone had a lemon.

I love my new to me Peavey USA Wolfie Special, $625. No Peavey Wolfgang Standard I've ever owned sounded like a Les Paul. Maybe it was the pickups? I would find a nice used Standard and save a few grand!

Thanks for the input thus far everyone. Hopefully Pete will pop his head in then.

The Stealth HT would be killer for sure. Definitely my overall favorite in the looks department out of the EVH line. I'm just drooling over the specs & wood configuration of the Custom.

I don't know my Wolfgang history, but the EVH Wolfgang Custom is different than any Wolfie I've seen. Thick mahogany body, mahogany neck w/ebony board, carved maple top, hard-tail, & 24.75 scale set neck. For all intents & purposes it's an EVH LP Custom, so that's why I asked if it "captured the LP tone". My next guitar is going to be in the LP ballpark tonally. I would just get another LP, but having played a Special I dug the playability of the neck & the ss frets. Plus I really like that it has the graphite rods in the neck for stability. So if the Custom will get me there tonally plus the little extras I like this will be the top of my list.

The biggest thing to wrap your mind around, IMHO, is the vintage fret size. Those things are small, small, small.

Not sure why EVH went to small frets, since he has always advocated tall frets (since his EBMM days)!? The Peavey Wolfgangs all had tall frets.
