Evm 12l in a 1x12 cab ?

So back in 2008 at a George Lynch clinic I won a evm12l.
It has just been sitting on the shelf.
I want to get an empty 1x12 cab and see what it sounds like ?

1. Any reasonably priced cabs ?
2. Has anyone tried evm in a 1x12 ?
3. What do they sound like ?

I have never tried any Electro voice speakers ?

If you can, get an empty Mesa Thiele 1x12 or something similar. I got one and like it a lot. Takes a little getting your ear used to it, but the Mesa Thiele with the EVM puts out some series low end, when it's loud it can hang with a 4x12 for volume which is really impressive.

I will keep my eyes open for one of those cabs .
I figure a 300 watt rated speaker would be good for a 1x12 .
Plus the speaker was free .
I wish the cabs were cheaper !!! Doh
Or should I say dough $$$ ?

My two favorite cabs are both 1x12 ev loaded. One is a rivera tac cab which is like a thiele cab. For non thiele type cabs I prefer oversize open back 1x12, the ones that are about 24" wide. That mesa is a great one and the original ev plans for a theile cab are readily available if you are handy and can build your own.
 
I have an Avatar cube open backed cab with the EVM front loaded on it. Sounds killer!

I will check out the plans . I have all the tools and can build , between , honey do list , two mopar muscle cars and work I don't have much time . But if I can do it cheap enough I think I will ? :rock:
 
I have one in my carol Ann combo and it sounds great. Used to be Std in Mesa combos years ago.

Oh you can, if I remember it's less then half a sheet of good ply and I think the plans are called tl806 but if you search for ev thiele it should pop right up. If you don't want to use tolex look up duratex it's a water based truck bed liner material and works great on cabs. I've done 4 cabs so far from my first gallon and still have lots left.

:thumbsup: I have 2 cubes with EVM12L BLS 300w speakers. They are ported in the front and sound huge. :rock:
 
Well today I'm going to buy the 5150 1x12
From king and I will change out the speaker with
My evm12l then I will get another van halen and put it in
My crate 2x12 cab . I have two of them they have the 85 watt celestions
I don't much care for them ?
Maybe in a different cab?
My brother has an old peavey cab with 85's and loves it ?

Tone is like an expensive addiction !!
