A buddy of mine has an old slant Marshall with G12-65s. It's all black and in decent shape. He got it pretty cheap about 10 years ago when we were working on starting a band together for around $400. We've agreed that I'd buy it from him, but I'd like to offer him the right price for what they go for. Anybody seen the going price on these lately?

Thanks!

What they said. ^^ GC has an 82 white anniversary cab for 899, which would be on the high side. Found my first checker 79 cab for 350, but the last one I bought was 499.

I don't remember what original 65s go for. But reissue ones retails for 165. That's $660 for four speakers. What blows my mind is when people buy/sell cabinets for less than the price of just the speakers.

I guess that huge safe storage box is a liability.

FWIW, these are definitely not the reissues. Therefore they're automatically cheaper, made in UK, and requisite for brown sound, etc.

IMO the best speakers for any Marshall circuit.

For some reason these fly under the radar still. I bought one years ago for $500. Gladly would have paid more. Great cab.

We decided $500 would be fair since it's a bit beat up, he'll make a bit of profit, and it's at the bottom of the price range. I'll report back in a couple of weeks when I get around to picking it up. Really looking forward to what my SLO clone does with those speakers.

Never had a SLO clone but my 2 SLOs loved the first 65 cab I had, even better than GBs. Let us know.

Usually people who hear it feel it sounds closer to a Dual Rect than a SLO, fwiw. When I first got it around '07 or '08, I was really into V30s. Now I primarily run it through EVH GBs. Can't wait to hear it through these 65s.

Well I've had a few Triple Recs and they all sounded awesome with the 65s FWIW.

Hey Joe, check out this video of a SLO through G12-65's. I think the guy who recorded this is on this forum.

Lol, I sang that in my head as I was typing it.  OP's a buddy of mine. I introduced him to the sickness that is rigtalk. He does better at staying away than I do.

-I wasn't sure if anyone would catch it or not,

-how can ya not love some old 65's!!!

The reissues are made in the UK.

I scored an 82 JCM800 cab with 65's for $400 a couple years ago. Thought it would be amazing since everyone raves about the 65's. Those speakers sound like G12t75's with less bass and slightly more mids, mostly just trebly fizz. I yanked those suckers and sold them for what I paid for the cab. Not my cup o tea.

I thought I read that they made several different versions and always believed it since I hear such differing views on it. Seems people either love it or hate it.

And FWIW, allegedly the original vented G12T-75s actually sound really good and nothing like the modern ones. Others already posted itt can speak to that firsthand.

You're probably right. I recently played some late 80's V30's and they sounded 1000 times better than the newer ones in my cabs. Those were the only G12-65's I had ever tried.
